Hello Raistmer if this was an upgrade from 7 or 8 you could try to rollback to whichever one you had then go here microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 it will allow you to burn a bootable dvd or usb drive to do the install with the active key you have with your 7 or 8. Hope this helps out. My bad was not paying attention the link is http://microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 Nope. I don't update working OSes cause don't want to have any issues with already existing licensing keys in future. I need working Win7. So all exersises with Win10 go through Insider program for now. I did not check if Win10 full license already available through academic subscription. |

for some time i ran technical preview but i never activated it on launch day i burned an iso for pro and installed that but didn't activate it later i switched to an evaluation copy of enterprise and it installed the ltsb version against my wishes. the ltsb version is pretty bare bones, no xbox for example. never activated it now i'm on the enterprise version that my work is licensed for but i haven't activated it. i heard this rumor that if you don't activate it, it will automatically shut down after an hour so i'm waiting for that to happen. i ran 8.1 enterprise for months without ever activating it, the watermark never bothered me. of course you can't personalize your desktop without activating it, but i don't bother with personalization |

I installed recently (after 29 july) Win10TP x64 from same ISO I used on my PC to friend's one. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/forum/insider_wintp-insider_install/pre-release-product-keys-for-windows-10-insider/97e6cd1f-ee8a-42ea-b76c-46aa4af8e203?auth=1 With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

I installed recently (after 29 july) Win10TP x64 from same ISO I used on my PC to friend's one. I see thanks. So my already activated installation will remain active but new one I creating despite of being new will not have key eligible for activation. Well, will see how unactivated Win10 behaves then. |

The biggest complaints I have so far about Win 10, is that it installs some of its own apps, and you can't uninstall them. Then, even though I can sign on with a local account and avoid that huge password at boot up, I can't even play solitaire, or use some of the other apps, without signing onto the Microsoft account. It is like blackmail. I have turned off the spyware stuff, and it doesn't come back on. It is not hard to navigate around and find things, but I do feel like I have lost a lot of control over what happens, and when. There is a program that I learned about from a coworker that diverts the desktop search to Google called Bing2Google. I was easily able to change search engines in Edge, but the desktop requires that program. According to a post by PC Pitstop a couple of years ago, Bing is 5 times more likely to direct you to an infected website than Google. This may have changed, but I just prefer Google. Based on the above thoughts, I prefer Win 7. I know that this way of doing things is becoming the new normal, and at some point there will be no choice, but I do not like the loss of control I have become accustomed to. If I get enough time this weekend, I will submit some carefully constructed feedback for dear old Microsoft. Steve Warning, addicted to SETI crunching! Crunching as a member of GPU Users Group. It's not like blackmail, it is blackmail. And when M$ starts charging for the updates of it's free O$ it will become extortion. This is how they repay loyal users of 20+ years. I think the building outcry from those duped into upgrading will eventually cause M$ to change it's ways or be subject to a mass exodus of users. Microsoft is trying to make PC's become smartphones to push people into Windows phones. The last time M$ went head to head with Apple in a hardware battle cost them a LOT of $. Anybody remember the Zoon? Better wake up M$, the peasants are not happy. "Sour Grapes make a bitter Whine." <(0)> |

The real problems lie with people like us. By far, the vast majority of computer users are not power users. My father is a great example. He has been using computers for at least 25 years, and barely knows how to turn one on. He needs a system that takes care of itself, and just does what he wants. We power users are a minority, and these changes affect us more dramatically. I don't have a long term solution, but in the short run, we can stay with Win 7, or Linux. With Linux, the control is there, but getting any particular program to work on it is not always easy. I have only dabbled in Linux once, and then only very briefly. I may decide to change that, and really start learning about it, but for now, I am willing to wait and see if Microsoft listens to users like us, and at least allows us to take control of our own, hand built systems. Chris, I agree with you, but as I stated before, the people who really understand computers are a minority. Every one of us could switch to Linux, or some other alternative, and the vast majority would never know the difference. Microsoft doesn't have to listen to us, as most of their money comes from the masses, who understand very little. The masses want eye candy, and Microsoft delivered, in a way as to assure their own financial future. The last I saw, some 29 million people have already upgraded, and this is not even two weeks since release. Steve Warning, addicted to SETI crunching! Crunching as a member of GPU Users Group. That is , why the people that understand need to alert the others about, what is really going on. |

I tried that with my father, and he just doesn't care. If my own father doesn't care, and he knows full well my capability, then how would I get a stranger to understand? In a way, I am feeling like the problem, if it is to be called a problem, is that the solution is way bigger than all of our combined efforts. Even if we are successful for a year or two, I can see where the future is going. Children are raised with cell phones, and have already surrendered their digital lives, without even knowing the ramifications. To really make a difference, you would have to change an emerging culture, and of course the entire government. I just don't see that happening. Steve Warning, addicted to SETI crunching! I see a very big opportunity for someone(Apache, Elon Musk?)to fill a niche need and gain customers by offering a competing OS clone ala Open Office(to which I switched when M$ made older Office packages incompatible with 8.0). They are(Apache) successful in mimicking Office without legal consequences, and I don't see ANY Justice Department interfering with competition for M$, especially if that competing OS is offered for free as is Open Office. Hopefully some enterprising young thinkers will take the chance. "Sour Grapes make a bitter Whine." <(0)> |

Greetings, Several days ago I went ahead and upgraded to Win10. While I'm still not 100% satisfied with Win10, I do have some likes and dislikes.

Since last update Firefox is crashing regularly. A message is sent to Mozilla every time. Is MS trying to switch me to Edge? Tullio |

It will harm your nerves when win 7 keeps nagging you to upgrade to win 10 NSA edition Simple enough answer. Hide the Win 10 upgrade. I've done that & no further issues. Even the "get win 10" icon is gone. Received 24 updates Tuesday, not one was for Win 10. |

Since last update Firefox is crashing regularly. A message is sent to Mozilla every time. Is MS trying to switch me to Edge? Greetings Tullio, I use Comodo IceDragon which is built on Mozilla's Firefox open source and it has not been crashing for me. For all intents and purposes IceDragon looks and works like Firefox does. I did the update yesterday. And! Win10 actually asked me to install the update and reboot. All it did was download it. Now I just need control over what gets downloaded. ;) Keep on BOINCing...! :) CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. It will harm your nerves when win 7 keeps nagging you to upgrade to win 10 NSA edition Other than the repeated intrusions and nagging? Or do you like being nagged? Just like telesales calls... And yet supposedly it is your computer and your system. Or is this Microsoft reminding you that you are their slave? Do carry on. With the continuous banging on that Linux drum over the past decade, it's amazing it has any skin left on it :-) |

If i could get all my nvidia cards crunching in linux all my machines would run it for right now until i can get some sirious help doing just that i am forced to use winblows The mainstream Linux distros support nVidia CUDA and OpenCL and will also have a Boinc Client to get you going. For further speedups, check out the Lunatics... (All even though nVidia has attracted quite a bit of past controversy and has been slow to support the way of FLOSS... But strangely times change... Hopefully for the better.) See: Linux Distro Watch Happy fast cool cruchin'! Martin See new freedom: Mageia Linux Take a look for yourself: Linux Format The Future is what We all make IT (GPLv3) |

Histrionics? If you have no dirty laundry to hide... And no money for Marketing to plunder... Or too old or too young to care for yourself and others... Windows 10 sends identifiable data to Microsoft despite privacy settings Windows 10 sends identifiable information to Microsoft, even if a user turns off its Bing search and Cortana features, and activates the software’s privacy-protection settings... Are YOU owned by Microsoft? Where do you want Windows to take you?... IT is what we allow it to be...
