Strangely I don't get calls like this, do not call or not, why? This could be cause My number was a landline phone number and is now on a cell phone and this has been My phone number for quite a few years.

I don't think those kind of scammers operate in the US.

I just want to say that I have been reading on the boards on Microsoft a lot the last few days and all the answers I have seen are that basically Windows 10 will take over your Windows 7 key so doing the clone and upgrade will not work(I thought about this as well so I asked) So my plan is to either get another windows 7 key or use my spare back-up oem key for the upgrade and still do the dual boot to evaluate Windows 10 before switching all 3 of my computers over.

If you make an image of the OS partition you can free reload it at will. Windows isn't a constant call home to make sure it's valid type of system. Once it has passed the initial checks to say it's legit then it is basically on auto pilot from there. Much of MS licensing is based on the honor system. "Yes I have 10,000 user license for my server OS... of course I do...".

If you were to reinstall Windows 7 on the same systems & try to activate a new installation with your Windows 7 key that was using for the Windows 10 upgrade. Then you might get a message that it is no longer valid.

Unless you are using VMs you can only run one OS on your machine at a time. So the spirit of the single user license is still being adhered to. However if you want to stick to the strict letter of the user agreement then once you upgrade to Windows 10 then your Windows 7 license is no longer valid.

I understand what you are saying that could be a way around microsoft do the clone then unplug one drive and then do the upgrade on the clone and after that reconnect the other drive and see what happens have some time to work on it since 10 does not come out until July 29th Thanks.

You can now get Win10 on a USB stick.

I will wait for a little while I do not plan on doing the upgrade the very first day because I will do it my way (dual boot 1 drive win 7 untouched 1 win 7 to 10 so I can try it out without jumping through hoops to get back to 7) if I do not like 10 then I can just format the drive and use it for extra storage and still have the other drive with 7 on it. I will be more than willing to post back here or on a new thread about my trial with win 10 if it may help anyone else to decide what to do. Thanks everyone.

I do have to agree with the"honor system" I once got a copy win 7 ultimate off of ebay that ran fine for a year then started not genuine windows I found out from phone calls to MS that the key had been used 66!!!!!!!! times so HAL9000's idea could work for a time.

If you download and install (assuming you are on the fast track) the latest upgrade, 10240 you will have the real deal, Windows 10 instead of a beta version. So far I am very happy with it.
I was running the Beta on a separate computer. I expect the others will be available for update the end of the month.

That is of course because you purchased a copy of a MS disk and the software to detect it was not implemented until MS found out that people were just making copies and selling them. I personally would never buy software from eBay. There is always someone out to make money illegally.

I agree, ebay is ok for hardware, software, hmm, maybe Newegg or directly from Amazon itself and I'm not sure who else.

I don't know about that. I've purchased plenty of legit software on eBay. Found a great copy of Windows NT 3.51 on there for cheap.

I do agree about software on ebay but only where windows is concerned anything else I have had no problems. The 2nd incident with windows on ebay I was sent a developers copy that was only good for x-days( I got my money back on this one) so I do report several listings a month since the signs are very clear(to me at least) but it never seems to end. I have had some good experiences with ebay as well my current win 7 is good and when I was looking for 7 home for my father-in-law I got a great deal on the oem keys that I use on my secondary machines.

I do have to say that the oem's that I have I had to do phone activation on but they still work fine(I got 3 keys for less than $100) so the story of software on ebay is still mixed.

I uninstalled KB3035583 (Win8.1), because the taskbar Win10 icon annoyed me (also Win10 advertising in Win Update)...
After, hidden this update in Win Update (that it will not installed again)...

I gone from WinXP directly to Win8.1 - and it's OK.
I don't want to learn again a new OS (in the near future).

The Intel iGPU and NV/ATI VGA card drivers are ready (work fine) for Win10 and AP/SETI apps?

Don't forget that MS estimates that 75% of MS software in the Far East is dodgy unlicenced stuff, and probably 25% elsewhere in the world. Which is why they front-load the cost of their stuff to make a profit. If everybody paid up front what they should do, we could all get MS software for $20 a throw.

Or, that much more probably, there would be just 5 "Billy" instead of one. Your estimate suppose that those copies cost something for M$ to produce. But nope, it's plain wrong. It's common lie to be repeated again and again and again.
In reality there will big losses for M$ cause Linux would dominate already. Or some another OS would emerge. "Fair price" is illusion, don't "buy" it.

For MB Cuda, the update and change cycle hasn't really settled enough for me to look at it in detail. I like the clean feel of the desktop though, and it definitely feels leaner/quicker overall. I think it might end up a smidgen better in feel than winxp x64 pro did, but am not sure how that would change on the spread along old-new hardware. My test machine is a core2duo with nvidia gtx 680, so I guess nearly legacy in Win10 terms.

Today I upgraded from win7 to win 10 pro build 10240. After finising upgrade I use diskcleanup utility from accesories and all win7 backup directories gone. Its like a clean install.
I hope that MS change the update choises atleast HW drivers.

I just wanted to add that there is an option in Win10 to not allow Device driver auto installation. It is found in System Properties/Hardware. This should not allow Windows to install its video drivers if you do not want it to, since updates are downloaded in the background and as far as I know can not be stopped.
