I had two of my crunchers on Win7 Home Premium and found the upgrade to Win7 Pro was $90 as opposed to the Win10 Home to Pro being $100. So I've already upped those to save $20.

It can take awhile once you've received KB3035583. It took Voyager, (my Win 7 Home Premium Laptop), a day and a half after installing KB3035583 to show the "Get Win 10" icon in the tray. It will show up.

Three of four systems updated here, all three updated systems have the new icon. The fourth system gets updated tomorrow. (Dad's laptop is the fourth system. Parents' Desktop is the third system. Exeter and Prometheus are my systems. ...and Voyager, my laptop; but that one doesn't crunch due to excess heat buildup when I tried to have it crunch.)

Well after reading just a few posts here i say NAY to win 10 . For "F" sack when are they going to learn to stop doing rubbish things , and not having control of win update is a BIG one.

There can be only one reason to be exclusive . So much for choice .

Looks like they did not learn with win 8 when they made the desktop disappear with that stupid Metro . And it became awkward to use with out a touch screen

Sorry a mouse and keyboard is still the best way to use a computer .

Maybe when they can make computers understand speeach then they can get rid of them until then MOUSES AND KEYBOARDS RULE touch screens are just awkward

Ok, I'll wait, but that's business as usual around here. I've got lots of time, about the only thing I couldn't really upgrade, was the stupid video driver, upgrade that and I'll be lucky to do any crunching, the new PC(an EVGA X79 Classified) will get the upgraded video driver, this PC has a hardware problem with power delivery, at least the cpu will be able to be transplanted into the EVGA P55 FTW.

I've messed with the tech preview in virtual machine a few times, and my friend actually took an 8.1 install on his laptop and upgraded to the tech preview, and I've messed around with that a little, too, and.. I think 10 is what 8 was supposed to be in the first place. Much like how 7 ended up being what Vista was supposed to have been. Vista and 8/8.1 were basically a mistake, and 7/10 are the refined, "lesson learned" successors.

My biggest gripe about 8 was the same as yours: the interface was designed for a touch-screen.. on a portable device, NOT for a stationary computer with an actual keyboard and mouse, and no touch screen.

That's where 10 comes in, because they did a "lesson learned" kind of thing and went back to making it feel like 7... but the start menu is now a customizable tile interface, so it's kind of a "best of both worlds" thing.

I've always hated the next OS that comes along until 2-5 years after it came out and then I begrudgingly start poking at it and eventually just give in and start using it and then I get used to it, but this time around.. I have really liked 10 since the moment I saw the public demo released as a youtube video. That's not to say that I'm going to upgrade right away, but I'm definitely looking forward to getting it after a few months of bugs being worked-out.

So.. trust me, I understand your frustration, but this time around, I don't think it is quite justified. Underneath, 10 is basically.. 8.2. It is a UI overhaul, and some more improvements behind the scenes, (despite the fact that they finally just manually changed the kernel version number itself, it really is just a continuation of the major kernel version starting from Vista, which was 6.0, 7 was 6.1, 8 was 6.2, 8.1 was 6.3, and early builds of 10 were 6.4 before they decided to make the kernel version match the number for the OS). In a nutshell.. 10 is the cool stuff from 8, with the feel of 7: basically.. it's what 8 should have been in the first place.

edit: oh, and re: truly automatic updates.. that's only in HOME. The casual users don't have much savvy and don't like having to keep telling their OS to do things. The typical consumer and computer user just likes everything to be taken care of for them. If you don't want things being done automatically, or you want some control over things.. congratulations, you are officially a "power user." As such, power users get something more than the basic Home builds. In Pro, in this case, updates can be automatic, if you opt for them to be. Okay, so it's more money, but admit it.. as a power user, you were going to get Pro anyway, so.. why care about Home being fully automatic when you weren't going to get/use it anyway?

yes your right i am as you say a power user but i'm on a pension so buying the pro version may be to expensive and why should i pay more for a few bells and whistles . Stuff them i won't be upgrading to pro the price will make shore of that i'm shore. NAY TO WINDOWS !0

Edit : sorry guys still a bit peed off with the newbee's and there trashing of units . Look at my stats see 14 units in the inconclusive and think not again more newbee's useing old GPU's with only 255 meg of ram or 512 ram and the latest driver's and they haven't checked what there systems are doing so they are trashing thousands of units . first 4 i looked at have between them over 7,000 stuffed . so sorry again for blowing off steam grrrrrrrrrr

In the meantime I see folks moaning about the sort of problems I expect to see on an Alpha/Beta test product. To those I say, if you aren't prepared to suffer the pain of being a tester then don't test and moan, bu wait until the released product is out, then moan like crazy, because at that point MS deserve the flack...

TL, did you need to reboot on the last time? I had 4 updates to do today and no reboot was needed.

My dad's HP Pavilion laptop had 35 Updates to do; some of them required restarting the computer. Once done, the "Get Win 10" icon came up right away on that system. I had to wait a day and a half for it to show up on Voyager. (My HP Pavilion laptop.)

Do you have IE 11 installed and up to date?

As I don't use it I was still on IE 9. As soon as I installed IE 11 followed by three more non critical updates I got the icon.

That happened on two machines.

Glenn, HaHa!! I can understand your sentiment! To answer the other question, yes I am up to date with Internet Explorer 11. Thought I had satisfied all the perquisites and was wondering why I hadn't been bugged yet. I was wondering what is different in my systems that I haven't been inflicted with the Windows 10 'update bug' yet. The systems get turned off every day after solar sundown and powered back up every day once I have enough power to justify the A/C to overcome the heat load they put out when running. Just wondering.
