100 Finalists Have Been Chosen For A ONE-WAY Trip To MARS. If all goes according to the nonprofit’s plan, 100 people will jet off to Mars in 2024. Pictured is a spacecraft launched from a NASA facility, but NASA won’t take part in Mars One’s mission. rOZZ Music Pictures |

Oooow , Sorry Julie I do not like this . Thanks for the info thou . I just think it's way to early , anybody on that mission will be taking a 1 way trip and is irresponsible we just don't have the infrastructure for this yet . |

We don't need the infrastructure Glenn, if the technology is there to give people a one way trip and they want to do that trip, that is their choice. Who is to say they are right or wrong. 99.999% of the world will see the first 4 as simply committing suicide, but they will go down in history, either gloriously or in ignominy depending upon your viewpoint. +1 rOZZ Music Pictures |

I just hope I am still around to see it. I'd rather be young enough to participate but I will settle for just still being alive to witness the event. But I have a feeling red tape will push the event well beyond my life span. Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. I question whether the government of the country that hosts the launch site for this adventure will readily grant permission for the launch, or launches. that will be necessary to make this venture happen. I would feel sorry for the twentyfour people who will dedicate several years of their lives in training only to be denied permission to launch. Also,I wonder whether this organization will have the resources to make follow up launches of additional pioneers assuming the first four successfully make it to Mars. I think for long term survival at least 100 pioneers would be a minimal population. What will the scientific community think of having the Martian environment invaded by a host of settlers? I rather doubt that any of these people are suicidal. They wouldn't volunteer for the mission expecting to die in the process. Now I'm sure they are aware of the risk involved but that is not the same as expecting to die in the attempt. I am also sure that the planners are expecting to give these people the equipment tools and supplies to make a go of it assuming they reach Mars and successfully land. The first pilgrims from europe to the Americas knew they were taking a one way trip and the possibility of dying along the way was in their minds, but they also believed they had at least an even chance of surviving to a natural death. I think these new pilgrims also hope to have a chance of surviving the trip and living out their lives on Mars. No test pilot ever expected to die from it, well maybe a rare few. I still say these brave new pioneers have every expectation of living out their normal lifespan on Mars. I would recommend reading the content of this web site http://www.mars-one.com/ . They are planning on staying on Mars for a long time. Their stated time table is one launch every two years sending four pioneers at a time. Whether or not they succeed is debateable. But they do have a plan for survival over the long run. Don't get me wrong, I too rather doubt that this expedition will ever get off the ground. But I still think the people who have volunteered don't expect to die trying to make it to Mars or shortly after arriving. Like I originally said I doubt that they will ever get the funding needed to build the first rocket, let alone all the other components. I don't think there gona do it just for glory or the History books . It will be money , inducements as usual not sure how much they are willing to go BOLDLY, where no one has gone before! not many people have made peace with themselves...so they don't fear the moment of death...or can cheat death with the last resort of will power, ideas & strength... ;) non-profit org. I'm generally not a suspicious person, but I've started thinking like Candorchasma, that this Mars One company sounds flimsy/fishy. The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

Hopefully, they are just extremely naive. Otherwise, if they are just scam artists bilking people out of their money, the authorities should shut them down. Could be a combination of just naivety and pie in the sky, but I guess we'll see as it all plays out down the road... The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

Well, I put my money on that they don't reach Mars alive! It's a bad bet to make...but considering the travel time in Solar system, radiation & people working together in close spaces for 9 months (at least)... $5 they don't reach Mars! $1 they don't last a month on Mars! And that is optimistic! ;) non-profit org. Play4Life in Zagreb, Croatia, EU |

Personally, I think this venture will fall apart long before even a rocket gets built. But if, by some miracle, Mars One gets all the money they need to proceed I think their chances of having a successful first mission is as good as any government sponsored mission would have. How long they would survive, barring any mechanical failures will depend on what the state of the art in radiation shielding is at the time of the launch.
