Question from the net about gas stoves:)

Ok. I understand the stove but the oven ??? Should I light the oven with a torch or what and hope for the best? Now we're talking old stove, one thing that can explode at any moment! Is there a way so as not to get 3rd degree burns all over your body but still get you boyfriend to bake cinnamon rolls? How to do it?

Glass top are what we call ceramic tops over here, and if an element fails or it gets cracked, to replace the whole top is often 3/4 the cost of a new oven! Most professional cooks prefer gas as it is so instantly controllable.

Your right about control but the nearest gas line is several miles away. The house is all electric and when you get a power failure, the house is limited to what runs on batteries, charcoal or candles. I have a large stock of all of the required items but so far the longest power outage has only been a short time. I am located on the wrong side of the Salt River and the location was isolated from Phoenix for years. They finally got around to installing a proper high water river crossing but the gas line never followed because all of the older houses were all electric. On the other hand, Natural gas is really expensive here. My moms natural gas bill is almost as much as my electric bill in the winter with temperatures remain above freezing. I am starting to like my heat pump more.

OK...next up on the kittyman '90 Oldsmobile channel...

Over the last week or so, I have scored a few good parts for my continuing upkeep efforts on my Toothless. My 1990 Olds Cutlass Ciera daily driver.

Replaced the driver's door weatherseal with a stock piece last weekend...$150.00, but it fit perfectly and now seals out the wind noise and the snow and rain bits.

New Delphi fuel injector. New Delphi plug wires....they were the original 25yo wires and were getting tired. And regapped the #1 AC/Delco spark plugs at .065 rather than the stock .060...and yes, that is actually the part number for the plugs. AC/Delco #1.

Noticeable improvement in smooth running.
The plug wires, I suspect.

Not this weekend, the weather is not predicted to be too nice, but maybe next...
2 new AC/Delco E530C ignition coils. They were used in the supercharged 2.5l Buicks, and are reported to give a hotter spark.

Bunch of new parts on order for my trusty dragon kitty Toothless too...

A NOS original water pump.
A NOS original heater core.
A Breeze constant torque hose clamp kit. A must when replacing all the heating and cooling hoses.
A NOS heater outlet tube...not available in most stores anymore.
A NOS serpentine belt idler pulley.

It's kind of fun tracking down the last few original bits left for a 25yo car. Takes a lot of time and searching, but I am good at that.

The other thing I have been playing with is the ECU...engine control unit.
AKA brainbox. The thing was not original when I first got the car.
The box said ANAM, the prom said ATRB. I am now searching out the latest '92 box I can find. As it is the same engine as the '90.
Last week, I got a '92 box from a junkyard near myself that was out of a '92 with a ASAT prom in it. The last known broadcast code for the '92 was ASAU, so I am very close to the last code issued for that engine.

Unless some unusual mechanical failure befalls it, I suspect it shall be the car I pilot for the rest of my driving life.

I remember when Undercoating was an option they always tried to get people to buy on a new car. Do they still do that?

As for the serpentine belt, I had the Valvoline Instant Oil Change guys do my '99 Saturn Sc1's and I think they were sorry they volunteered, ;~) Those suckers are tricky to maneuver around everything.

This car talk reminds me my horn whimped out the other day. I was behind someone who didn't understand the concept of moving into the intersection to turn left on green, and my car horn blew like a sick balloon losing air. I haven't checked the fuse, but I suspect the horn itself is bad because it was a junkyard part added on after a collision did in the original horn. :~( I may just get a clown horn instead. ;~)

I am going on a few hours of sleep and a lotta hours of overtime.

Let me just wrap up by saying this.

You do not have to believe in what I do to try to understand what I am saying.
You may be at total opposites to it.
This I accept.

I come from a position of believing that I am more aware of things unknown to most men or women than perhaps most on this earth.

That may be a delusion or a reality...not mine to sort right now.
And perhaps not yours either.

I have gone from one end of the spectrum to the other..
Damning God for putting me through this all and praying to Him for revealing some things to me in dreams.

Whatever the outcome, I have had insights to things others may never have seen from this life's perspective.

Yes, mine has been an exceptional life. I don't get those 'visions' much any more. Not for years now. But they are as vivid in my memory as they ever were.

I hope that you Setizens, as open minded as you must be to be involved in this search, can understand the things that my mind has been exposed to, and when one day the answers are all revealed, may understand that I was not really too crazy after all.
