But it does seem to me that there is a lot more controversy, simple bad temper, and hidden agendas about on the Seti boards of late, than there has been for a long time. Wow! Judging from the last few posts here, you weren't kidding Chris :) |

Alright, lets be clear what the pope means when he made these comments. Imagine a class where one bully constantly makes jokes at the expense of the 'weak kid'. The entire class laughs, or at least never tells the bully to stop it. One day the weak kid snaps after the thousandth joke at his expense and punches the bully in a fit of rage, breaking his nose. Is that violence justified? No. Is that kind of violence acceptable? No. Should the weak kid be let off the hook? No. But could it have been expected? Yes. And is the defense that the bully was simply exercising his right to free speech and that the weak kid should just be able to 'take the jokes' an acceptable excuse for the fact that no one ever told the bully to stop making those jokes? No, that entire class and teacher should think about how they failed to prevent the weak kid from reaching a point where he snapped. This is essentially what the pope was saying. If you push someone long enough, you will eventually reach a point where that person starts to push back. Its inevitable. So be mindful of others and dont just start pushing people around, just because you can. I think the Pope has a good point there. |

i AGREE 100 % Micheal . Freedom of speech has it's limits and so does freedom of the press . But to often you get some person that think's it's ok to abuse freedom of speech and freedom of the press and then that is when governments react and make laws so it is illegal to use a excuse of freedom of the press or speech to insult and rile people up to a point they will kill and i think the argument of free speech has a lot to do with people disrepecting the feeling of other just because it's not against the law . And unlike some you can change peoples attitudes and behaviours . Pity it takes laws to do it To much freedom leads to bad attitudes and behaviours and this is why we do have laws for murder and things as it stops most people from doing bad things if you don't think so then get rid of all the laws and see what happens . |

Here is a feel good story. One of the hero's of the French siege is to be given citizenship: Malian hero in Paris supermarket attack to be given French citizenship "I am a practicing Muslim. I've done my prayers in this store. And yes, I helped the Jews. We are brothers. It's not a question of Jews, Christians or Muslims. We are all in this together, we need to help to get out of this crisis" Lassana Bathily simply said. http://www.bfmtv.com/societe/prise-d-otage-on-sort-et-on-se-sauve-le-temoignage-du-salarie-qui-s-est-enfui-856691.html But in Pakistan... Violent protest against Charlie Hebdo. Protesters and police have clashed outside the French consulate in Karachi, Pakistan, reports the Pakistani television. A news photographer has been hit by shots. https://translate.google.se/translate?sl=sv&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=sv&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dn.se%2Fnyheter%2Fvarlden%2Fvaldsam-protest-mot-charlie-hebdo%2F&edit-text= |

I haven't red "x ed " anyone have you ! The red X is there for a reason and not everyone feels comfortable confronting things head on. No one should feel obliged not to use it any more than they should feel obliged to use it. Its an alert system and the mods may or may not act on what is reported. So if posters could please refrain from a competition about who is the most badass for not red Xing posts, and try a little harder not to make posts that may be insulting to other posters, that would be nice. More protests against French magazine Charlie Hebdo. This time Nigeria. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-30863159 Agence France-Presse news agency says others set fire to two churches - similar to Friday's demonstration in Zinder where protesters also raided shops that were run by Christians. |

I find it odd that jihadists attacking satirical people and artistic people considering how many political groupings in the Western world who openly show hatred towards Muslims. If jihadists took care of them instead of innocent people so maybe the world would be better to live in. |

I always said that WWIII would start in the Middle East. Unfortunately it won't be that kind of war. They will hit soft targets all over the world. |

Every religion of whatever persuasion, has it's extreme elements and fringe activists that the mainstream adherents don't associate themselves with. Agreed. I am very wary of all those who try to paint extremist violence as simply a "muslim" problem and that Christians/Jews would never behave like that. Which history shows us clearly isn't true. By insisting on making a faith issue rather than a power issue people run the risk of missing the point and perpetuating the problem. It creates an us vs. them situation that actually escalates things and alienates moderate muslims. Obviously that is the last thing anyone would want if they really want to break the cycle of violence. So yes, there are actually murderous christians, murderous muslims, and murderous jews at work in the world. They do not represent all christians, all muslims and all jews. So it is possible to criticise them without damming their entire faith. Or if you do believe it is a faith issue, then stop being blind to the horrors committed by all the other faiths. I will criticise anyone who claims that christians and jews would not do this. It does not mean that I support muslims that do this. Reality Internet Personality |

Thoughtful reflection by New Statesman cartoonist Tom Humberstone Huh? It's like the cartoon and the article were done by 2 different people. The cartoon is pretty good and is consistent throughout. The article is all over the place and oxymoronic at best. |
