That Mariana Trench must be one wild place. I know they said there's a special chemical that helps the animal hold it's shape, but still, it's hard for me to understand how it survives the pressure.

How do you survive the pressure of 1atm?

The same way does that fish! Only their pressure is a little higher...but for it, it's prefectly normal! ;)

I am sure there are hundreds, if not thousands, of species of animal life deep in the oceans and elsewhere on or in the earth that remain to be discovered.

Except at those extreme pressures, normal biology ceases to function...

Those fish have special cellular mechanisms to live despite pressure so great that normal cell structure would be deformed to uselessness. That is not just a case of internal vs external pressure, but the greater problem of large biological molecules deforming and losing their normal function...


No light, cold, low oxygen, super high pressure... Occasional food from above. All a very alien world.
