Just for fun I tried using a cheap USB 3.0 PCI x1 riser on my setup but it didn't really work. For one thing the riser doesn't provide much power until you actually turn the computer on. Maybe my video cards need a certain amount of power before hitting the power button. I don't know if it the riser was ever designed to work with PCI-E 3.0 or my PLX chip. So ended up getting two 3M x16 ribbon cables and for now it works but they're expensive and stiff. So I have one video card where the top of the case was, and the other card is sticking out the left side. The original top of the case had the buttons on it so now I just use a motherboard power button. And the left side of the case is no longer there. |

Yes, I tried everything from all hands and nothing works for long. The first 6570 works perfectly on cat 12-4 but when I put the second one on the riser it doesn't work. I remember now that last time I swore I would stop experimenting and not try it again. But I tried it again with the same results. This time I mean it - not again. Thanks everybody for trying with me but for some reason on this computer the attached 6570 on a riser won't work on this computer. I apologize for wasting your time. Also, Merle has incorrect cmdline settings; TUNE:incorrect tune params: 1 (64,8,1) He might as well Lose the Tune setting altogether, I doubt it would help a 6570. The Sleep setting is for nVidia cards and shouldn't be used on ATI cards. As stated previously, on my cards, the dummy plug that worked in Linux would NOT work in Vista. The trick mentioned by HAL would NOT work in Vista. The only thing that worked was running a CABLE to the Monitor. Also, make sure you hit the APPLY button in CCC when extending the Desktop and make sure the setting Sticks after hitting the Apply button. |

Yes, I tried everything you all gave me before. I'm going around in circles now. I tried the monitor before yes. It has never used the riser correctly. merle - vote yes for freedom of speech |

Yes, I tried everything you all gave me before. I'm going around in circles now. I tried the monitor before yes. Well, don't know what to tell ya. If everything looks fine in the Device Manager, it should work. I couldn't get the Extended Desktop setting to Stick until I ran the cable. After that everything worked. Good Luck |

It has never used the riser correctly. Didn't we have this conversation before about store bought dell MotherBoard don't support more than 1 GPU? Maybe it wasn't you but I know I discussed that with someone. Something about them doesn't allow it. Maybe it's how they are wired, maybe its a limited amount of power to the PCIe. I remember trying it, even replaced the original power supply with a more powerful one with molexs to power the riser. It would never allow that second GPU on a riser to run. One of the reasons I started to build my own with better MoBo. My 2 cents... Zalster |

Yes, I tried everything you all gave me before. I'm going around in circles now. I tried the monitor before yes. Does the riser that you're using have an additional power plug attached to it? Cheers. |

Thanks Zalster, That wasn't me. But after many attempts I am sure, sure you are right. It has never used the riser correctly. merle - vote yes for freedom of speech |

...catalyst ctl ctr is showing it as a disabled gpu! Can you give an exact description of what CCC is reporting? Maybe that would help. |

Thanks TBar, I have given up on that. I am working on my new build now. merle - vote yes for freedom of speech |

...I have given up on that. I am working on my new build now. Ok, well looking at the last result, it still has that incorrect Tune setting and the sleep entry, http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=3778931770 It seems to be rather slow for some reason, it should finish in under 2 hours as far as I know. It's not doing any better than my NV 8800 at present ;-) |

...I have given up on that. I am working on my new build now. Indeed something is rather off for the times on the 6570. For comparison some of my low end cards. 6370m 120 GFLOPS ~5h 50m 5750 1008 GFLOPS ~1h 20m The 6570 at 624 GFLOPS should be a lot closer to the 5750 times. What would the correct tune and sleep settings be? I cannot read anything like that in this thread. Or where would I find the correct settings? Thanks |

Thanks The AP v7 app should select the correct values automagically. So you should be able to remove the -tune setting completely. The only option I used on my 6370m was -hp. I never had a need to use -use_sleep. SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours Join the [url=http://tinyurl.com/8y46zvu]BP6/VP6 User Group[ |

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=75878&postid=1587484 I would remove both settings. I haven't noticed any effect from using the Tune settings on my 6870 and Sleep is Not meant for ATIs. |

OK, done. Thanks you guys. That prior comment that TBar made confused me. I couldn't figure out who was saying what to whom. My XFX 6570 is running at 675 MHz (stock 650 MHz) and I had been told before that all other brands had a core clock of 1000MHz. I'm running it a bit overclocked since I have a backup 6570. :-) Be great if I got a bonus here! merle - vote yes for freedom of speech |

OK, done. Wikipedia has a very hand list of GPUs that is nice to keep for a reference. The stock clock is listed at 650. I think 1000MHz might be a bit of a stretch for the 6570. I have only pushed one of my 6870s from 900MHz to 950MHz SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours Join the [url=http://tinyurl.com/8y46zvu]BP6/VP6 User Group[ |

My core clock is running at 675MHz not 1000MHz. According to gpu-z and siv64. --edit somebody gave me bad info on the 1000MHz clock of other brands. I remember who it was but don't want to put it out there. merle - vote yes for freedom of speech |
