Has anyone developed a screensaver for Roku, or other similar streaming devices? These are just mini computers connected to the internet. It would be great to earn some Seti@home credits when I am not watching a streaming device.

If there is a channel already available, please let me know.

What OS is used?

Linux.

But I doubt one can add anything to it. It sounds very much like my NAS, which also runs Linux and has comparable hardware, but cannot be adapted to have BOINC or a science app run on it. And really, why would one want to use it that way? Doing so will most probably only severely interfere with what the apparatus is made for: in his case streaming (live) video, in my case storing lots of data on the network.

Thanks, I did not realize that Roku was a Linux device and that these are incompatible with Seti@home.

My thoughts were that Roku devices are relatively idol when not being used. In my case, it may be sitting idol 12 or more hours a day, when I am away at work. So why not have my Roku doing something useful rather than being useless. Once I start using the Roku for enertainment, I would not want Seti@home running in the background anyway.

I am sure with the small processor it would not be able to analyze a lot of data individually. However imagine 10,000 or so Roku devices running idol for 12 hours a day it may over time offer some contributions to the project.

It isn't the speed of the processor that is the problem. The system is probably locked down, and may have very little memory.
