You think that's bad Jan try $150,000 a year for a backbencher in Federal politics A backbencher In Westminster parliamentary systems, a backbencher is a Member of Parliament (MP) or a legislator who holds no governmental office and is not a frontbench spokesperson in the Opposition, being instead simply a member of the "rank and file". Plus perks totalling about another $150,000 a year and after 2 terms they get a pension equal to 80% of there pay for life plus they get 25% added to there superannuation plus 2 free first class tickets on a airline any where they wish to go inside the country per year Pigs at the trough i call it and to think the rest of the country only get 9% on there superannuation contribution from there employers |

There are exeptions. To be clear, indeed some MEP's do that. And even in those cases one can wonder whether its unfair given that they do work, just not inside the EP building. Finally the people that made the clip are part of a right wing national populist tv station. They are essentially the mouth piece of the right wing anti-EU populist groups and media so they are not a reliable source when it comes to the EU. They will only ever highlight perceived flaws and they will do so in a very one sided manner. |

You think that's bad Jan try $150,000 a year for a backbencher in Federal politics It's called a basic income for life for a few doing nothing. The politicians argument is that no one will hire them because they are too old and incompetent and burned out!!! Thats true indeed. Is this situation rare? Almost everyone of us feels that way now. Many Politicians are parasites. The rest of them doesnt object. "We are following the rules". And who are setting the rules? |

Everything costs someone, something. That's a more honest way to earn a living than being a politician! Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge. |

Wouldn't you be? Does it matter who did that interview? Most pro-EU Citizens are also reacting violently to this! The EU administration cost a fortune. If you have common sense you ought to realize that this wasting of tax payers money must stop. |

Everything costs someone, something. Totally agree, at least they give pleasure whereas politicians only provide grief! |

To be clear, indeed some MEP's do that??? And most MEP´s sign and then spend the rest of the day doing their jobs inside that EP building. So they get paid to do their job, thats only normal isn´t it? Or do you believe politicians shouldn't be paid for doing their jobs? And yes it damn well matters who or what your source is. If they are to be believed all MEP's are trying to get paid for not doing their job, when that is simply not the case. They are liars who have a decisively anti EU agenda and this is just a part of it. If you really want to talk about wasteful spending behavior of the EU, talk about their monthly moving around from Brussels to Strasbourg. Now thats a waste of everyones time and money, even the people working for the EU will agree with you on that. |

Tut tut tut. Quite correct about signing & working, but when that signing on equates to £200 per day & signing on a Friday when there is no work suggests to all those "nice" EU citizens that something is wrong . |

To be clear, indeed some MEP's do that??? Hang on Mike. You are partly right. But MEP's are getting paid for expenses they didn't have. It's not salary for work! In a company you have to declare the expenses with receipts and you only get paid for what you spent. But not MEP's. Why? And all this travelling. Why? Don't they use modern communication technology. We normal people have to and EU encourage this. Talk about rip off! Mind you I'm for EU but seeing all my and all others Money go wasted like this... Then again it's only taxpayers money. |

Hang on Mike. You are partly right. Well, how do you know those MEPs didnt work all day? Or didn't have any expenses? That youtube clip doesn't provide much proof of that. Aside from that, yeah sure, a few MEP's abuse the system, no doubt about that. But keep this proportional, the majority of them does not. Should they include some rule that says they need to show recipes for the expenses they made? I would agree they should, but I very much doubt it would save you a lot of money. And all this travelling. Why? Don't they use modern communication technology. They are politicians. Not everything they do can be done behind a computer using Skype. They have to go to meetings in other countries, talk with national politicians or representatives of their national governments, they have to go to political rallies, go out and talk with people, you know, stuff politicians do and your average businessperson does not do. Or when they do, they are also not using Skype. |

Well, how do you know those MEPs didnt work all day? Or didn't have any expenses? That youtube clip doesn't provide much proof of that. Do you want more clips? Do you want more articles about EU spending tax payers money for personal use. You havent even read the Swedish article along with that clip. Svenska dagbladet where the article comes from are very pro EU along with our FM Carl Bildt. They dont like this either. https://www.facebook.com/carlbildt Its a mockery of democracy. |

Interesting reading. I have more. But not tonight:) One thing though. I was shopping today and met a beggar from Romania doing 'nothing'. Romania is a member of EU which means you can go and live and work in ALL EU countries. I guess her monthly income is less than the 300 Euros MEP's gets for doing absolutly NOTHING. There too many parasites in the EU parlament:( 750 all together most of them not knowing this waste of taxpayers Money. MEP's own welfare is 225,000 euros a month for doing absolutly nothing. |
