United Notifying Passengers on Ebola Patient Duncan's Flights United Airlines, which flew Ebola victim Thomas Eric Duncan on two of the three flights that brought him to the U.S. last month, is trying to notify as many as 400 people who may have been on Duncan's flights, referring them to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the airline told NBC News on Thursday. United said it doesn't believe any fellows passengers are at risk but that it was taking the move out of an abundance of caution. http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/ebola-virus-outbreak/united-notifying-passengers-ebola-patient-duncans-flights-n217056 |

Where is the CDC? Where is Homeland Security? They should have dispatched advisors and containment/clean-up teams by now. Just saw on CNN TV from the brother of the infected fellow that the bed linen is still in the apartment. GAWD!! Murphy is really running amok on this one. ... |

Bureaucrats must have their pound of flesh... The ignorace or arrogance Mr Duncan displayed is appalling. If he lives the Liberian govt. is quite correct. |

Was this Mr. Duncan a highly paid person in Liberia? Even when I was working I couldn't afford to buy an international plane ticket on just a few days notice. He had to have known that after trying to help that woman who later died that he was most likely infected. I wonder how many other people that had been exposed to someone contagious have fled the country to parts unknown. How many more times will this scenario play out before all transportation out of regions stricken with this disease is halted? Another one :( NBC News Freelancer in Africa Diagnosed with Ebola An American freelance cameraman working for NBC News in Liberia has tested positive for Ebola and will be flown back to the United States for treatment. http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/ebola-virus-outbreak/nbc-news-freelancer-africa-diagnosed-ebola-n217271 and this.. Family members of Dallas Ebola patient confined to home under armed guard Four members of a family the U.S. Ebola patient was staying with were confined to their Texas home under armed guard Thursday as the circle of people possibly exposed to the virus widened, while Liberian authorities said they would prosecute the man for allegedly lying on an airport questionnaire. The unusual confinement order was imposed after the family failed to comply with a request not to leave their apartment, according to Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins. http://www.dallasnews.com/news/metro/20141002-family-members-of-dallas-ebola-patient-confined-to-home-under-armed-guard.ece |

Am I the only one who is having flashbacks to what was first said about AIDS and with the same attitude? This could be bigger than AIDS. I doubt it but 70% reduction in the worlds population is possible, think global warming. It almost seems like the planet is fighting back. |

To me ebola is much worse than AIDS ever was. It spreads fast and kills quickly. In more than 20 years of research there is no vaccine nor cure. They don't even have a readily available way to test for ebola before symptoms appear. Spittle would be my greatest concern if I had been anywhere near a person with ebola. Many would have expected the CDC to over react when the virus hitched a ride to north america but instead they seem to still be in a reactionary mode waiting to see if anyone in the vicinity of Mr. Duncan over the last two weeks develops symptoms. I truly hope they are right when they say the disease can't spread before the victim displays symptoms. Health Officials Say Up To 100 People May Have Had Some Kind Of Contact With Texas Ebola Patient DALLAS, Oct 2 (Reuters) - Up to 100 people may have had direct or indirect contact with the first person to be diagnosed with the deadly Ebola virus in the United States, and four of his relatives have been quarantined in their homes as a precaution, health officials said Thursday. Dallas County officials said 12 to 18 people had direct contact with the Texas patient, and they in turn had contact with scores of others. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/10/02/texas-ebola_n_5919522.html One of the relatives went to buy a blanket at Walmart??? |

Wake Up call Scary... ...some very valid points raised in that report. "It's badly needed. There are only 327 beds for Ebola patients in a country where 765 new cases of Ebola were reported just last week. The authorities in Sierra Leone are well aware of the urgency with which new facilities must be provided. This centre was built in just two months. "There are not enough treatment centres," Mark says. "With lots more beds, we can stop this disease progressing, but the longer we leave it, the worse it will get." "It's really good that the British government has got behind efforts to combat Ebola in Sierra Leone, and the US too in Liberia," he says, "but we need other governments to help out. It's gone beyond money, we need the big players to come in and stand alongside us on the ground. "We are at a junction. If we don't act now it will spiral out of control."" |

Doctor dons Ebola protection suit to protest ‘asleep at the wheel’ CDC By Mike Morris and John Spink CDC chief on Ebola: We can’t shut the border By JONATHAN TOPAZ | 10/3/14 7:03 AM EDT Doomsday warning: UN Ebola chief raises 'nightmare' prospect that virus could mutate and become airborne - making it much more infectious By Corey Charlton and Lucy Crossley for MailOnline Lets see... Doctor says CDC is either lying or incompetent. CDC refuses to restrict travel from West Africa to the USA. UN says Ebola has an increasing chance of 'going airborne'. Not to worry. President Obola will protect us. I agree with CLYDE. Something is going on here, and it doesn't smell right. Yes, it is IMPORTANT to stop Ebola in West Africa. BUT, just how the FARK are we going to be able to help them, if our medical infrastructure is overwhelmed with cases HERE? |

Five blunders US made in treating country's first Ebola patient A good summary of the situtation, in my opinion. To summarize (and avoid a 'Great Wall of Text' quote): 1. Only filling out a form was necessary to leave Liberia for the USA. 2. The hospital in Texas screwed up on his first visit on Sept. 25. 3. His ambulance ride back to the hospital on Sept. 28 was screwed up. Also cleanup of the apartment and surrounding area was bungled. 4. The quarantine of those exposed was delayed and mishandled. 5. Area schools were not closed. I recommend reading the article. In my opinion, blame for this is pretty much shared equally by the US Federal Government, the Texas State Government, the Dallas County Government, and the Dallas City Government. If this is the best we can do, especially after all the preparedness meetings of about 1 week before this (in other words about the time the guy was getting infected in Liberia), things look... grim. If this case doesn't mushroom out of control, the next probably will. Slightly, but not totally off-topic: Oh, for those that might not be aware, the 'Dallas Judge' Clay Jenkins quoted in the article is not a judicial judge. He is the 'Dallas County Judge', meaning he is the head of the legislative County Government in Dallas County. The 'County Judge' in Texas is the elected head of the 'County Commissioners Court'... the County's Legislative body. The 'County Judge' is elected at large by the voters in that county, and the 'County Commissioners' are elected in the County by district. |
