Definitely not... North Sea Oil Sea Empress 13 largest oil spills in history ...& from your link... "Just in its first year, 115,000 gallons of low-level waste was released into the sea." Low level to us maybe, but what about the ocean's ecosystem? |

I was a kid when the Savannah was being built and thought it was the most beautiful ship ever. I even still have a model of it on one of my shelves. There are low levels of radioactive material being released into the atmosphere at most coal fired power plants due to the trace levels found in most coal. Had the world not been afraid of nuclear powered ships the Savannah's problems could have been overcome. Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. This no longer applies in light of current events. |

I clambered all over the NS Savannah with my wife and kids in Charleston South Carolina. It was part of their Maritime Museum at Patriot's Point there in Mt Pleasant. They had a WW2 Carrier there as well as one of the old Diesel Subs like my father commanded when he was in the Navy. I seem to remember that the Savannah is no longer there. I am going to Charleston this November for my 50th reunion for the Citadel class of 1964. I am actually staying there at Patriot's Point and will enjoy the ships there once again. |
