Ibelieve there's a book called, "Get a Life", which he wrote on that and subsequent experiences with fandom. Walter Koenig also wrote one called "Chekov's Enterprise", it deals with filming Star Trek the motion sickness, There's one story where someone brought in Hash Brownies and the whole cast got stoned and filming had to stop for the day. After that there was a rule "No Food Allowed" from unknow sources. |

> AAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!! is correct, including the spelling though i > wonder what it came out like in japanese. and was the movie subtitled or > dubbed. When I first watched 'Mystery Science Theatre: the Movie' in a theatre > I was surprised when people would laugh at something and I hadn't a clue as to > what. Or I would laugh and people would look at me strangely. Both the movies I saw in the cinema in Hachinohe were subtitled. I'm not sure what AAAAAAAAH would look like in katakana (I don't really think it needs translation; the Japanese have generally the same reaction to impending deceleration trauma/granite poisoning that westerners do). The other movie was "Harlem Nights" and again I was the only one laughing when Eddie shot Arsenio and his posse without aiming. |

Greetings, Earthlings! ----> I cite Mr Franz Joseph's Set of General Plans for the USS Constitution Class (1974 edition) in which "NCC-1701" is clearly labeled as the "Naval Construction Contract Number." To my mind, that makes it pretty official. (Sheet one, referring to the number stenciled on the side of the port "main propulsion unit." It also appears on several other sheets in the 12 sheet set.) A small detail, yes, but important. |

Greetings again, Earthlings! ----> in my zeal to add to this discussion, I misread the blueprints (good thing I'm not a shipwright!). The number is "NCC-1700," not "NCC-1701." But the point remains -- Naval Construction Contract, as identified by The Designer himself (and bearing the imprimatur of Gene Roddenberry). "Canon" notwithstanding, I don't believe Mr R would have approved these plans if he didn't intend them to guide writers and fans alike as to the ways of his universe. |

Glad to make first contact, zman! We don't take it too seriously - or at least I didn't. We don't take points off for errors, so rest easy. |

In 1967 I lived next door to a kid that was a very intense and intent fan. He constantly wrote his own episodic scripts and submitted them, hoping for their use. Do any of you know if this kind of thing ever ended up being accepted? Did they accept 'guest' screenwriters? I'd like to think that, at some point, this kid was successful... he lived and breathed ST. |

I *think* that David Gerrold was the only guest screenwriter. |

Some scripts have also been produced into episodes and some of the writers became repeat submitters and still some became members of the writing staff. As far as I know, the Star Trek franchise is the only one to accept scripts from the outside. As a matter of fact, they even had a writing workshop for people to learn to write for Star Trek. thanks siran, I'll hope the neighbor was successful in his endeavors, I know he was one of the most commited fans, maybe the first commited fan, I ever had the experience of meeting. John Kerry said this year on the campaign trail that he had been to a commitment ceremony..... One of the few things the wingers didn't try to crucify him for.... . . |
