I don't understand this part - "By setting distance as the criteria, the SETI team hopes to alleviate any bias that might otherwise result from focusing on systems similar to that of Earth. The team selected stars for study based only on how far they lie from the sun." - What's wrong with aiming toward systems we think might have planets capable of supporting life? ![]() |

I still think the possibility of earth being in the path of two ET civilizations communicating with each other is real close to zero. Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. This no longer applies in light of current events. |

Gordon - SETI@Home does not have control of where the Arecebo telescope is pointing, it simply hasn't the cash to do so. All it does is to do a parallel collection from wherever the telescope is pointing. Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Gordon - SETI@Home does not have control of where the Arecebo telescope is pointing, it simply hasn't the cash to do so. All it does is to do a parallel collection from wherever the telescope is pointing. That's what I thought, but I got the impression a new project was in the works, and it was going to zero in on stars that have no confirmed planets, which seems strange to me. ![]() |

In a recent announcement SETI astronomers unveiled two new projects intending to find signals of extraterrestrial intelligence within our Universe. I also thought I read somewhere, maybe even on here in a thread somewhere that these signals fade, too, so there really couldn't be any ET's out there watching Lucy. ![]() |

The team selected stars for study based only on how far they lie from the sun." - What's wrong with aiming toward systems we think might have planets capable of supporting life? We only have one example of life and intelligence. So we don't really know what is typical for ET life, ET intelligence nor life-bearing planets. So it's better not to introduce a bias by searching for signals only from Earthlike planets. We simply don't have enough knowledge to restrict the search to only some kind of stars or planets. |

If you don't provide any proof, there is no challenge. |

Today's news is very interesting Probably not caused by anything intelligent unless it was an advanced civilization annihilating themselves. Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. This no longer applies in light of current events. |

If Et has our level of Tec then even thou the signals we have been transmitting are weak they would still be able to be picked up with the right equipment So Chris you never know ET might just be watching The 3 Stooges or Lucy . Would be ironic if they where Lucy did say she picked up a radio station with her fillings one day . ET was talking to Lucy Barnet via her teeth only joking she thought it was a local radio station hehehe ![]() |
