Confirmed: Voyager 1 in Interstellar Space NASA's Voyager I spacecraft has been steadily journeying away from the sun to the outer reaches of the solar system since its 1977 launch. As it travels farther out and enters a different region of the solar system, it's occasionally affected by coronal mass ejections -- shock waves caused from massive violent eruptions from our sun http://www.cnet.com/news/nasas-voyager-hit-by-third-solar-tsunami/ |

Confirmed: Voyager 1 in Interstellar Space New data collected by NASA's Voyager 1 spacecraft have helped scientists confirm that the far-flung probe is indeed cruising through interstellar space, the researchers say. Voyager 1 made headlines around the world last year when mission scientists announced that the probe had apparently left the heliosphere — the huge bubble of charged particles and magnetic fields surrounding the sun — in August 2012. http://www.space.com/26462-voyager-1-interstellar-space-confirmed.html |

Seems to me from reading these and other articles that it's still sort of in the realm of our solar system, but by golly it sure is doing great, still talking to us! :~) ![]() |

All I can say is: Fascinating. "While it's unclear exactly how far away from Earth the Oort Cloud lies, Voyager 1 won't get there for quite a while. NASA scientists have estimated that Voyager 1 will emerge from the Oort Cloud in 14,000 to 28,000 years." Wonder what this planet will look like then... Thanks for the updates Lynn. |

That's a long time to dodge bullets the size of boulders lets hope it isn't hit by one traveling through the ORD cloud ![]() |

I am confused. It's been said that Voyager 1 has left the solar system and ventured out into deep space. Now we say that the Oort cloud surrounds the Sun. If so; I think that it is still very much in our Solar system. |

I am confused. It's been said that Voyager 1 has left the solar system and ventured out into deep space. Now we say that the Oort cloud surrounds the Sun. If so; I think that it is still very much in our Solar system. There are two boundaries. Gravitational and electro-magnetic. It has passed one. The next will take many thousands of years at its present rate of speed. ![]() |

Voyager may not have left solar system after all The Voyager 1 spacecraft was thought to have left the solar system in 2012, but now scientists believe it may not be in interstellar space after all When Voyager became the first man-made object to leave the solar system in 2012, scientists hailed it as a ‘milestone’ and the beginning of an incredible new journey. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/space/10986837/Voyager-may-not-have-left-solar-system-after-all.html |

Most of the scientists involved still think that Voyager I has left the solar system and the final decision may be a matter of semantics. It's sort of like the argument about whether Pluto is a planet or not. Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. This no longer applies in light of current events. |

Those of you who fancy travel to a another star system should reflect on how long Voyager has been traveling and may still be in our solar system. |
