Probably too late for me. My teeth are falling apart way too fast and with dentists rates what they are now plus medicare doesn't regard dental health as part of ones overall well being I can't afford to go to the dentist. Can you mortgage arms and legs do you know? Suspect that's what it'll cost - after all, anything that has the potential to cut into the profits of what is a very lucrative business is not going to be made widely available to all. :/ |

Here's one conspiracy theory I tend to believe. There has been a way to coat teeth so that no decay would ever occur. But if word got out dentists would be mainly put out of business. My brother in law trained as a dentist in South Africa, and you are absolutely right Bob. 30 years ago the coating you're talking about was rapidly uninvented for exactly that reason - it would put them out of business. Edit: Yes Chris - the light bulb thing!!! Deliberately designed with failure built in. Charming, not! |

I'm glad you wrote this. I seem to remember reading something about this a long time ago. If it had happened after the internet came along I don't think they would have got away with "uninventing" the stuff. I really think it is a shame. It's the capitalist society that we live in Annie. Technology is increasing at such an exponential rate these days, that consumers would rather have something that lasts 3 years, then throw it away. Then, for almost the same money they can get the latest all singing all dancing kit with the latest features. Built in obsolescence is the price we pay for it all. No it was a lot of painful truths! :/ And Bob, YES! A shame is the politest way of putting it :( |
