Where health is concerned you need to be serious! Health and addiction challenges are often intertwined and it is my very sincere belief that Monday is being extremely serious. Eating, smoking, drinking, drug use, sometimes even exercise are all things we do that feel good. Sometimes we do these things to excess in a "self-medicating" manner that is not always health-forward. Bernie, I am guessing that Monday is not really sharing his personal challenges, successes and failures with us because he seeks either chastisement or accolades. Rather, I suspect the sharing is part of a self-accountability process that helps our friend with struggles he is working on addressing across multiple areas that impact health. By being so open and honest in public, Monday is facing his challenges head on and working in a most serious fashion to address them. Monday, dear friend, please do not beat yourself up too badly for occasionally failing to meet your own expectations. Please also recognize and celebrate those many times when you resist temptation, be it a drink or a dessert. It is feelings of guilt and self-loathing that often drive addiction behaviors. A tendency towards addictive behavior is part of the human condition. Any of us lucky enough to avoid addiction in its many insidious forms should be grateful NOT for strength of character, but rather for the lucky twist of genetic fate that made us not quite so prone to addictive behaviors as others might be. Monday, please know that Eric and I send our love and our support. We know that this is a serious place for serious people doing serious work to stay in control of things that can be very, very, very difficult to control at times. |

Oh! I knew I forgot something. It is Monday, and I have failed again. I just got back from Wisconsin where for over a week I enjoyed my mother-in-law's blueberry pie, homemade waffles and amazing butter cookies. As you can imagine, it was not a health-forward week. Eric's mother always goes out of her way to make things her son loves to eat whenever we visit. (Unfortunately her daughter-in-law loves to eat these same things!!!) Pudgy Little Raccoon Weigh-In 166.2 pounds (AKA 75kg; 387.05 grams) My health goals for today are to not eat any desserts and to walk Maya. |

Where health is concerned you need to be serious! All of that was extremely well-said, Angela. I identify and concur, wholeheartedly. :~) ![]() |

Angela, REALLY :-( However homemade blueberry pie does sound rather appealing. We'll just have to walk some off when I see you in October (Any excuse to walk with a pretty lady - just don't tell Eric I said that ;-) ) Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Morning people are definitely more friendly, 5 women coming the other way said "Good morning" to me when I was walking down at the waterfront. Did my first 7 km walk for a couple of weeks. Lovely weather for the last two days of winter , fine warm and sunny. The nice weather has got me feeling good. Going for a cruise on the bike now. |

Kidney & bladder infections are no joke, absolutely no joke at all. You are wise to take the drugs in exactly the way have been told (even if it means getting up twice in the night to "pop some pills") I had one about three years ago. I felt rough, didn't know quite why, far worse than any flu, then my kidneys started to hurt (the "wrong type of hurt" for me) and other symptoms not for the faint hearted. I phoned for an ambulance, and was admitted to hospital shortly later "unconscious, but breathing", (I only live about 15 minutes from the hospital, and was conscious when loaded) and woke up two days later with tubes coming out of every orifice and a few more besides. All told I spent a week in hospital while they pumped stuff in and drained stuff out.... Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

You are wise to take the drugs in exactly the way have been told (even if it means getting up twice in the night to "pop some pills") My roommate would get infections all the time and I think they would kill you before they damaged the kidneys to the point where they no longer functioned. She never was unconscious but more than once I had to get over the counter pain pills (sometimes in the middle of the night) to hold her over till we could get to a doctor. Her infections were so often that we would keep a test jar and antibiotics on hand so we could start treatment as soon as possible. If you have problems often, drug stores carry test strips that will tell you in two minutes if you are developing a problem. You still need to see a doctor to make sure the antibiotic is the correct one for the infection you are dealing with but it will help you determine if you are dehydrated or have an infection. Take the drugs and drink plenty of fluid and hopefully everything will be cleared up but the time you run out of pills. |

You are wise to take the drugs in exactly the way have been told (even if it means getting up twice in the night to "pop some pills") You might have explained something I couldn't figure out and that's why you have the infection. Infections are common in people who are unable to fully empty their bladder. My roommates problem was the result of a constriction in the urethra that the doctors didn't have a good way to correct. Correction to whatever is going on in your bladder may clear up these infections once and for all hopefully. I know you are not having fun!!! |

CONGRATS on the weight loss, Vic!!! :-) Due to eczema, and now water retention in my feet, I've been unable to exercise for awhile... :-( So, I haven't been weighing myself, either... I'm now on Furosemide for the water retention. The eczema is clearing; so, once the water retention is gone I can return to exercising. Right now, though, my feet are so swollen that it is difficult to get my shoes on. :-( I hope the Furosemide starts working quickly. TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel... Come along K-9!
