All I've had to eat since Saturday is about 3 liters of soup, 6 slices of bread and 10 liters of wine. I was a bit depressed about getting diabetes so I had to drown my sorrows. I woke up this morning starving to death so I went down to the petrol station and got a meat pie. I forgot to put the soup in the fridge so it went a bit tangy yesterday and I had to throw it out. Snacked on a few cashew nuts. Scales say 96.2 kg.

The pressure is on with 3,000,000 seti crunchers watching my progress. Having diet buddies is good though and I appreciate the support and helpful tips.

Even though I have to lose weight I hope those of you who want to shed some pounds are successful as well.

edit The hardest thing is going from 2 spoons of sugar in my coffee to 1 spoon, even though I only drink 2 to 4 cups a day. :-(

Cheers friends.

Look for a sugar substitute called Woolworths - Stevia, I, and many other, find it has a very slight taste, but this can be disguised by mixing with sugar.

So you could go back to your previous sweetness level with one tsp of sugar and 1/2 tsp of Stevia. Beware Stevia is very sweet.

I was under the impression that artificial sweeteners like Sweet'n'Low could actually be one of the causes of Diabetes and Obesity.

They trick the body into thinking it is going to get some energy, triggering a release of Insulin, the diabetes connection, but fail deliver the energy, making to body demand more food, the obesity link.

That would be Big Sugar trying to fight against loss of market share and it's not true in the least, I gained My weight long before I started using Sweet'n'Low, I was tested for Diabetes, I don't have that, the weight increase came from Me not being active as I used to be cause of joint problems from when I broke a leg and had surgery to fix the leg, which ruined an ankle. Plus I have Osteoarthritis, since I was at least 40, that started in My shoulder blades, to get that, the the blades have to be dislocated by a fall, I had one in the military that probably led to the OA, no falls before or since.

I also have Osteoarthritis in the shoulder, and have had several ACL operations on my knees, field athletics - jumping and skiing plus badly designed Army boots - medical discharge. But my surgeon told me to exercise knee without twisting, that's why I go out on my cycle as much as possible and only use car for shopping when weight of shopping dictates it. I'm 5' 10" and 165lbs and a year younger than Chris.

Good on ya Angela, positive as ever. I think I just walked 6km. Went to town and didn't get a hotdog at the French bakery like I usually do. Came home via the waterfront. Now I need a nana nap.

All this talk about artificial sweeteners reminds me of the saccharin scare back in the 70's. I remember my mom used to drink Tab, and it had it.

I completely understand why it is necessary for some people to use artificial sweeteners, but real sugar only has 15-16 calories in a teaspoon. For sweetening coffee that doesn't seem too bad to me.

Another reason is ants, a neighbor of mine is having ant trouble, I've never had that trouble here. In any case refined sugar is also bad for the teeth, combined with saliva, refined sugar becomes an acid. This state only pays to remove teeth, no implants, bridges or dentures, maybe one day the legislature will undo the cuts to Denti-Cal, but right now I'm on My own.

I only use Stevia lately. No calories, nothing artificial in it and very sweet!

Stevia sounds like an interesting thing. I've never seen it in the stores here, but I've never looked! ;~} I will ask about it next time I'm in the grocery. I did read something about it that said there might be a licorice-like aftertaste, which would turn off some people, but I like fennel and anise, so as long as I know what to expect, that wouldn't bother me.

So ants don't like artificial sweeteners?

Truvia is one brand of Stevia being sold; there are others, too, I just can't remember the major players.

I've just got back from our Wednesday morning class at the gym and it was particularly brutal today. I did ask the gym instructor at one point to please try not to kill my husband and I'm rather attached to him. I actually thought I was going to throw up towards the end. The plus side is is that the Wednesday class makes the Friday class seem easy.

Not sure how many calories I burned off, but I shall probably put them the back trying to comfort myself after this morning's ordeal.

Some people are heavy boned and some aren't, some people are slight framed, some are heavy framed. Some have muscle mass, some have fat mass. You cant believe completely in a simple BMI chart. The only way to lose weight is to either cut down on the calorie intake, or burn off the extra calories with exercise. But you still need a healthy diet with vitamins and minerals, and to keep fit with cardio-vascular exercise.

If anyone is going to consider a serious weight loss program, do go and see your doctor for advice first. In the UK some years ago we had the Cambridge Diet, which initially gave grave concerns of putting undue stress on the hearts of unfit patients. I believe it is still going, but that is a drastic resort.

Take moderate exercise, keep fit, eat healthily, be sensible, take advice.

I hardly ever eat candy or chocolate, not much at all actually. Sometimes I don't eat for three days, but the beer and my vitamines are keeping me healthy! (no kidding, beer is FAR better than any soda and it contains selenium, good for the hair and nails, and bones!) A sitting job doesn't require that much food anyway.
