Ulibelle, that is hilarious!

Ok, an average frosted chocolate cake has 6078 calories, according to Calorie King. Divide this by 3500 calories and you get 1.736 lbs. I shall add your guess to the list of guesses.

So far we have Ol' Pookers noticing weight loss at:

Less than one pound - CeltTooth
1.74 lbs - Ulibelle
2.5 lbs - Vic
5 lbs - Chris S.
7 lbs - Anniet
10 lbs - Time Lord
14 lbs - Esme
35 lbs (...or in other words, NEVER!!!) - Monday
And Wiggo's hilarious guess that Eric will think that SOMETHING has changed, but that he will not know exactly what...

OK, I will guess 15.

I'm on a diet, so Eric is going to get salad for dinner tonight. I hope he is not under the impression that life is fair...

Why are fresh figs so many calories!!! I thought I was being such a good little raccoon by eating fresh figs for a snack today, then I went and looked up the calories so I could record them in my food log. Holy-moley!!! I should have just had a candy bar.

Figs, or fig-newtons? I can definitely see where the cookies would pile up the calories.

I'm so impressed!! Everyone's doing really well!! Brilliant news Monday! So pleased for you :) And TL too :)

I'm on a diet, so Eric is going to get salad for dinner tonight. I hope he is not under the impression that life is fair...

:)))))))) if he is ... it won't be for long :) Figs - think dietary fibre Angela and don't panic :) Wish I could say the same about cake...

Hi John :) Only ever watched the Comrades marathon - we're talking running around on mountains here - sort of kind of not my thing at all :) cable cars - different matter of course :) so nice to find you in the cafe - and a truly inspirational post :)

After last friday - will be steering clear of the wine :/ not sure I'll be running though :)

Wow what a nice mid winters day. Walked past the fish & chip shop (twice). The photos are terrible quality, sorry but it was very bright, almost warm when the sun came out and around 16C. Dead calm bay and no wind.

edit added photo.

[nose haughtily up in the air]We don't eat store bought cookies at our house.[/nose haughtily up in the air]

4 small figs = 118 calories
I also ate a small nectarine and a small peach for an all fruit snack totaling more than 200 calories. Heck! For that I could have had a generous half cup of ice cream.

Slept from midnight to 8am today and woke up feeling really good. So good in fact it took me 3hours to get around to going for my walk.
Breakfast was a bannana and two cups of coffee + a 7.5 km walk. Man was I hungry when I got home at 1:30pm. Hamburger ,egg and 2 slices of bread went down without touching the sides. Yummo. Might try pumpkin and sweet potato soup for dinner tonight.

@ Angela. I think fruit has a lot of sugar, and therefor calories, to attract birds to eat it and disperse the plants seeds. Stay away from things like orange juice because even though it may seem healthy it is chocka block full of sugars.

I never thought about it that way - makes sense.

As far as the oj goes though, I have to have my juice. Love the stuff.

Trouble with the juice is that 1 glass is like eating 5 or 6 whole oranges.

I can't handle anything citrus or anything blue cheese & penicillin related(Penicillium roqueforti), one gives Me acid indigestion and the other I'm allergic to.

I used to get acid indigestion from tomatoes until I discovered that pileing heaps of pepper on them neutralizes the acid. Don't think it would go too well with OJ though. :-0

I only like juice in my mimosas...

Had to google mimosas, they sound good. Too bad I'm not supposed to drink any more.

Pumpkin and sweet potato soup just finished cooking and gets the thumbs up for taste.
Easy too. 500 ml water, 1 heaped teaspoon of chicken stock powder, pinch of salt, 200 grams each pumpkin and sweet potato cut into 15mm cubesapprox.
Put in a saucepan ,bring to boil and simmer for 15 minutes or until veges are tender. Pour nto a big bowl and enjoy. Simple!

Mmmmm... Pi(z*z)a...:)

That was my lunch yesterday. Hit the local pizza place's lunch buffet. Salad with lettuce, baby spinach leaves, shredded carrots, red onions, sliced black olives, mushrooms, raisins, cherry tomatoes and vinaigrette dressing, 4 small slices of pizza, 3 of which had veggies on them. Stopped eating at "comfortable" (not "full"), wasn't hungry, not even for a candy bar, the rest of the day.

Just had some soup today myself. Dunno what I'll have for dinner, kids will be asleep by the time I get home...

Donald, enjoying a salad first before diving into the stuff that is worse seems like a very good plan to me.

I need to figure out when my body is signaling me. Most of the time it seems to be saying "Go ahead, eat a little more."

It's the crack sprinkled on the Chinese buffets. I stay away from all you can eat. What a terrible concept. When did those start? It seems like salad bars started the trend in the 80's.

Angela, for me, it's an actual, physical "click - you're done." It's real sensation. Maybe, as your stomach shrinks, you'll start to recognize it.

By the way, my best friend and I would always split a single meal at a restaurant. That was always perfect. (Bugger became addicted to running, and was so grumpy if a daily run was missed).

CC

Sometimes I try to order a salad at a restaurant, followed by an appetizer as an entree. Mid-price restaurant entrees tend to be larger food portions than are good for me, and since I have so little control once served something delicious, I find that it is better to limit what is placed in front of me.

I feel sorry for men in this regard. Ordering an appetizer as an entree, asking for salad dressing on the side, splitting an entree with a dining companion or sharing a dessert is socially acceptable behavior for women. Restaurants staff members are probably more used to women being "higher maintenance" in this regard. I'll bet it is difficult for men to do similar things, even though it might be better for men to habitually do so.

I just don't remember restaurants being the evil empire when I was growing up. Overly processed food and the proliferation of restaurants in general has hurt us. I grew up with my mom at home, and a healthy dinner every night. We went out to eat for fun on the weekend, and you didn't worry about calories because the restaurants served normal stuff.
