Net loss = 2kg / 4.4 US pounds in 9 days.

Fantastic!!!!! Wonderful!!!!! Excellent!!!!!

That is really, really, really great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I've been not able to lose anything lately...

Hey Vic, don't give up the ship. I'm going to step on the scale tomorrow morning and I will probably find myself in the same boat you are in. I neither look nor feel an ounce thinner, but I'm going to keep on trying to change my behavior until something pays off.

Monday... :) what Angela said +10!

Vic... :) What Angela said +10!

And Angela... you've got the right attitude and am so very proud of you - it's your support and encouragement which is making a huge difference to all setizens wanting to make changes to their diet and/or lifestyle :) It is after all, about re-educating ourselves, and the first step: to become aware of what we're eating, even if we then eat is, is an important one to make. :)

It's often suggested that people who want to stop smoking, or lose weight etc should keep a diary for a week or so before they start, recording what they eat, and when, or if there is something that acts as a trigger (often important when quitting for smoking or drinking too) so that they can prepare an alternative, substitute activity, to help them get over those sticky areas (and baking is a very sticky area :)) Good luck with the scales tomorrow - and don't worry about what they say too much... the slow road is a very good road too! :)

Message 1528620 - Posted: 16 Jun 2014, 16:44:12 UTC - in response to Message 1526058.

Pudgy Little Raccoon Weigh-In #1
168.2 pounds (AKA 76 kg; 294.23g)

Pudgy Little Raccoon Weigh-In #2
167.6 pounds (AKA 76 kg; 22.08 g)

Net weight loss to date 0.6 lbs. (272.15 grams)

I don't know the range over which my weight would vary normally. I suspect that 0.6 lbs either way would not be statistically significant. Still, I am claiming this weigh-in as a psychological victory and I will use this information to help me keep trying to lose weight.

Per the suggestions posted here, I have started a food-log to help me become better aware of the triggers that prompt me to eat too much.

As a side competition, feel free to post how much weight I will need to lose before Ol' Pookers notices. He rarely reads the forums, especially the Cafe. I have not told him that I am trying to eat less and move more. Please!!! Nobody direct Eric's attention to this thread and interfere with this side contest.

Now then, I would not expect Ol' Pookers to notice a loss of 0.6 lbs, but when WILL he emerge from his Ivory Tower and notice that I have been trying to do one or two things differently? Guess away, dear friends!!!

I will make a donation of 100 US dollars to the charity of choice selected by the poster who correctly guesses (or comes closest to guessing) the number of pounds I will need to lose before Eric notices that I have lost weight.

I guess 10 lbs. At 10 lbs. lost, clothes start to feel looser/less restrictive, and should be noticeable.

Angela, considering you thought you did badly over the weekend, and may have gained, I think a -.6 is pretty impressive, and you are on the right path. Good luck this week!

+1 :-)

Great job; especially, since women lose weight slower than men... (I don't know why; but, it has been studied, and it's true.)

Thank you all for your kind words of encouragement. Vic, congratulations on your continuing weight loss!!!

Substitute Light Mayonnaise for Regular Mayonnaise, that will help, stop using sugar in your coffee, use Sweet'n'Low, etc, etc...

Bleh!!! While such substitutions may work for some people, I can say with 100% certainty that these ideas are not for me. I love food too much to eat fake-foods. Sometimes I even make my own mayonnaise, so I certainly cannot imagine eating light mayonnaise. I happen to take my tea black and I don't drink coffee. My dad was a dentist, so I never developed a soda habit. My REAL sugar and fat intake comes in the form of the desserts that I bake. There is a whole lot more sugar and fat in a serving of homemade pie than I could ever possibly put in a hot beverage like coffee or tea. And once there is pie in the house, well... we all know it is eventually going to get consumed. I think I have to channel my cooking enthusiasm into learning how to poach fish perfectly or in finding new and creative ways to make me and Ol' Pookers want to eat salad for dinner.

No weight loss is necessary for a husband
to notice if a wife is feeling better by
just working on it.

Congratulations Angela. A loss is a loss and it takes substantially more effort to lose weight than it does to put it on. Keep up the effort and keep reducing those calories. Also don't forget that I am seriously, seriously motivated and never lost any weight when I just thought I'm looking fat with this big stomach and man boobs. It will be difficult to change gears on my Harley if my toes are amputated and I can't feel my feet. It will be impossible to ride if I go blind. Stomach fat is a major cause of type 2 diabetes.

My guess is 35 lbs before Ol Pookers notices. Us blokes aren't good at stuff like that. :-)

How many frozen cheesecakes have I eaten in the last 9 days? Answer = 0

How many in each of the weeks before? Answer = 2 or 3 a week.

Monday, congratulations on the cheesecake control!!! That is awesome!!!

Diabetes is very much a life threatening medical condition. Monday, you are wise to hit this diagnosis with everything you've got!

My mother is a perfect example of why I want to be in better control of my weight. Our family photo album tells a most interesting story. My mom was quite slender when she married. She delivered me and recovered her figure. She delivered my brother John and recovered her figure. She delivered my sister Andrea and nearly recovered her figure. She delivered my brother Mark and her body just never snapped back. Busy chasing four children around, she put her own health needs on the back burner for decades.

My mom has probably been between 30 to 50 pounds over-weight since she was about 40 years old. Now mom is in her early 80's. She has had chronically high blood pressure for decades. She has had surgery for colon cancer. She has had surgery for breast cancer. She has Type II diabetes which has severely complicated every medical procedure she has had to have. She had extensive vascular surgery several years ago which just barely saved her from an amputation and she will most probably need more vascular reconstruction in the near future. She is a cardiac patient. She has had one mild stroke we know of and multiple lacunar infarcts. Her vision is failing. She thinks this is because of cataracts, but her vision loss is also spurred by her diabetes. My mother's quality of life is as good as we who love her can make it, but it is still not very good.

My mother's sister will be 89 in August and unlike my mother, my aunt has maintained a normal weight throughout her life. My aunt is in amazing shape for 89. It is hard to catch her at home because she is always out visiting sick friends, going to the movies, playing golf, gardening, preparing to give dinner parties and luncheons, enjoying museum exhibitions and going to the theater.

I know which way I would prefer to age...
