(CNN) -- The cosmos has aligned, quite literally, for families, space geeks and insomniacs alike, as the Earth is set to intercept a new meteor shower late Friday into Saturday.

The scientists who discovered the cosmic debris say the Camelopardalid shower could be "significant."

Scientists anticipate a new meteor shower tonight: the May Camelopardalids, resulting from the dust of periodic comet 209P/LINEAR. No one has seen it before, but the shower could put on a prolific show. The shower is predicted to be active on May 24, 02:30 - 11:00 UTC (May 23, 10:30 p.m. to May 24, 7 a.m. EDT). The peak is projected between 06:00 - 08:00 UTC (2-4 a.m EDT). This will be a one-night-only event.

No chance, lighting, hale and wind. Perhaps I angered the Greek gods by accusing them of stealing the snake on a stick form Yahawah.

He he he he he he he ... don't worry about it ... :) just don't put up any umbrella's and try not to be the tallest object around :) It's how I've survived this long I reckon :)

It's a beautiful clear night here in central Florida and I am about to venture out and see if anything is poppin.

Well, either central Florida is too far south or this event is a dud. I spent the better part of an hour outside looking toward the north and saw nothing, nada zilch.

Stargazers Disappointed With ‘Invisible’ Historic Meteor Shower; Astronomer Explains

A few years ago I made a trip to High Point New Jersey to see a meteor shower. The park was open for the night and had an astronomer on hand to explain what we were supposed to see. We saw two shooting stars that night. The speaker was visibly embarrassed. Good thing it rained last night.

Which is worse? Having an unusually dense meteor shower on an overcast night or expecting a nice display on a clear night and nothing unusual happens.
