I would love someone to come up with good reasons why the bubble theory that I and Grant have suggested simply cannot be. I would like to know what evidence suggests it is a likely hypothesis, and what tests can be done to falsify it? I would hazard a very strong guess that most Scientists discuss privately amongst themselves, all sorts of ideas, and bouncing them off each other. I am not throwing mud, I am saying that they are not likely to come out publicly with those ideas. Agreed that scientists likely discuss all sorts of ideas in private. I disagree that they're not likely to come out publicly to state their ideas. Indeed, that's what science is all about! You have an idea and your peers begin comparing notes based upon the evidence you offer for your idea to see if it has merit and better explains a phenomenon than the current theory. You are upholding your reputation of being mischeivous Ozzfan! :-| I was hoping to avoid such labels. I'm hesitant to offer an apology for my personality traits that seem to annoy others, yet others have annoying personality traits that they never apologize for either. My intent isn't to be mischievous (most of the time anyway), but to simply speak my views like everyone else does, without being told "on yer bike!" (or "go away!"). |

Sorry... *puff* *puff* don't mind me... *wheeze* just passing through but ...armchair got caught on the kerb... :) Off to... well anywhere that will let me in really... :) Before they do... :) had a look for a bubble theory... found a balloon theory... then fell back in love with the M-theory (found a really hairy paper on it... :/ so posted the wiki one instead) :) still searching though... bye! :) *trundle* *trundle* |

I would like to know what evidence suggests it is a likely hypothesis, and what tests can be done to falsify it? Ummm... no... it's your theory and you should provide the tests you've done that have brought you to the conclusion so that I can attempt to do the same and compare notes and account for bias. That's how science works. Scientists don't just spout ideas and expect everyone else to prove them wrong. Scientists state a hypothesis, test it, observe and record the results until eventually they feel confident enough with their data to publish it for peer review, where everyone else takes the notes, re-creates the experiments to see if they come up with the same results. You know... that entire process that you repeatedly claim is only to allow scientists to get paid. And yes, they use models to simulate complex things to gain a better understanding since most don't have a pocket Universe creator at their disposal. ;-) but to simply speak my views like everyone else does, without being told "on yer bike!" (or "go away!"). Hrmmm... you said that when replying to me, hence it was reasonable to think you were talking to me. I will accept that perhaps you misspoke or weren't clear enough in your communication, but I will not accept that it was a matter of me protesting too much. |

but no-one knows what the M stands for! It is likely that it originally stood for "Membrane" since these had just been discovered to be a key element of string theory. Other possibilities include Membrane, Master, Magic, Mystery, and so on. A group of physicists have developed Matrix Theory, which they believe could eventually co-opt the M if it is ever shown to be true. rOZZ Music Pictures |

You know as well as I do that the suggestion, proposal, theory, call it what you will, that Grant and I have put forward cannot be proved. There is no experiment that I know of that can be carried out with repeatable results that can be written up for peer review. All you had to say right from the start was "You are entitled to your opinion, but I totally disagree with it as you have no evidence for it". Fine, I am quite happy to accept that. I've been saying exactly that, in my own words. Challenging you to prove it and asking for you to provide evidence is exactly how one says "I totally disagree with you and you have no evidence for it". But it isn't enough to just make a statement like that. I must proactively ask you for your evidence so I at least give you a chance to prove yourself. When you are unable to do so, I can then make such an implied statement with reason and not with dismissal. It appears doing so makes you emotional and defensive, and provide cop-out statements like "no one can prove or disprove X". You are being given a chance to prove it. Otherwise, what's the point of proclaiming an idea publicly and not being given an opportunity to convince others that your idea has merit? Are you happier being dismissed off-handedly, or are you happier to share your insights with someone asking you about them? Quite why you're taking it personal is beyond me. If I bore and annoy you and others, then perhaps it's time for me to leave the community and find a different one. |

Assumptions remind me of a favourite military expression... ...SNAFU. They also remind me of opinions & we all know that quote. As for the big bang, I like the chicken or the egg, because no matter how far one looks into that, it will always come down to which came first & that's the quandary facing us all. Where science is concerned, an answer can always be found & once proven & accepted, that answer in itself raises more questions... ...so it's back to the beginning :-) Which came first? Chicken or Egg? As for leaving a community because of a few highly opinionated jack of all trades yet master of none? Why let the beer servers win... |

Chicken or Egg? Ah, but which came first? The particle or the idea? Or even better... Which came first? The beer or the glass? |

...but where did the particles that make up the beer come from? Just proves my point... ...every answer just raises more questions :-) The more one looks into the "Big bang", one either fries their brain cells or end up in a stupor. |

OMG, I had enough trouble understanding the many alternate universes in SG-1. Are they saying it could be real? |
