While watching the SETI program grind away in the hope that any minute now it will spring a breakthrough so revolutionary that the thinking of man will be irrevocably altered for all time, I started to ponder other areas where this type of borderless collaboration would have a place of equal significance - then an epiphany.

What if we could decode the many thousands of coded messages stored from wars gone by to dispel theories and to correct history to fact instead of the propaganda of the victor? Then I became as equally despondent, what if these cryptograms are nothing more than stationery orders or weather reports?

Many will believe history is the propaganda of the victors but perhaps it's better to let sleeping dogs lie.

:) I would always recommend letting sleeping dogs lie Side Lobes. Also grumpy children who fall asleep in their food in a posh restaurant. But imagine decoding a stationary order for three paperclips for example... I mean... what would they have been for? Why only three? Did they all fulfill their purpose? The questions that came from the answers could keep us busy for centuries. :)

Hope you're having a lovely weekend! :)

To get back on track, the winners always get to write the history books. I can imagine what history books today would look like had Hitler won WWII.

My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. This no longer applies in light of current events.

Not to mention the world! Hi Bob!

I have on more than one occasion thought something similar when watching programs which look into the history of some of the earth's long lost civilizations. Just from a few scraps experts build up pictures of the people from those times "proving human sacrifice" etc, etc... and I can't help thinking that if something were to happen to end our world as we now know it - and then in a few thousand years Mein Kampf was dug up from the ruins - would we all be judged on that?
