Watched it with great interest. Ol' Pookers is not going to be happy with me now when I march upstairs and discuss his intake of orange juice and Mountain Dew!!! |

The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. The rhubarb plant in my garden has been putting up the most delicious stalks lately. When Eric wakes up , it will be to the aroma of freshly baked rhubarb coffee cake. But with a nod to the video that I watched last night, I halved the recipe so we don't have a whole lot of extra cake around the house. I also added a third cup of extra rhubarb and I doubled the walnuts in the topping - two changes which should up the fiber content a little bit. Ol' Pookers probably won't even notice those tiny changes. |

A study carried out by experts for The Telegraph found that many alcohols contain significant amounts of sugar in a single serving. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/foodanddrink/10731418/Hidden-levels-of-sugar-in-alcohol-revealed.html |

What happened? Why have I only now found out about it?! :) |

Sorry that my rhubarb has highjacked this thread, but I truly feel that rhubarb is grossly under-appreciated here in the states. It grows well in many places, but most people don't know what to do with it. I put it in coffee cakes, pies, muffins, crisps (a fruit dessert over here, not potato chips!!!), cobblers and chutney. I love it. |

Yes, I never hear or see much about rhubarb here, but I do vaguely remember my dad's mom growing it and him liking pies made with it. ![]() |

New evidence on fructose in Coca Cola, Pepsi and other sodas in the US A new analysis from the University of Southern California finds that sodas in the US are potentially a bigger risk for obesity than assumed, because of the high fructose levels they contain |

I told my Dr that I was cutting down on my drinking CocaoCola and my intake of salt from my food. he asked me how many sodas I was drinking a day. I told him one 12 Oz. and one 16 Oz. He told me to only drink one 16 Oz a day. And He said my desire to drop my intake of salt was good to. I only drink one 12 Oz, soda now. And I have lost 11 pounds so far. ![]() Old James |

From reading that fructose article, fructose seems to cause fat problems in the liver. My liver has enough issues with my beer drinking. Need to conserve the good ol' liver cells. ;~} ![]() |

How much sugar do we eat? "It's nigh on impossible for people to work out how much added sugars they are consuming," says nutritionist Katharine Jenner, of campaign group Action on Sugar." That's a scary thought. |

OK, you'll have to bear with me as I don't have th education many people here have. If you eat healthy, exercise regularly, avoid or abstain from all toxins, will you 'live forever'? Didn't think so Quality of life is probably more important than quantity of life. I'll stick to sugar in my coffee |
