A star 13.6 billion years old has been found by Australian astronomers using the Australian National University’s SkyMapper telescope making it the most ancient star found so far. http://www.news.com.au/technology/science/australian-astronomers-find-star-136-billion-years-old/story-fnjwlcze-1226822111115 Cheers. |

WOW! Like finding a needle in a haystack. The astronomers said they found the star in the Milky Way galaxy, relatively close to the Earth, around 6,000 light years away. It is a few hundred million years younger than the universe and 400 million years older than a star identified in recent years by teams of astronomers in the U.S. and Europe. |

If true then that suggests that the universe is older than we think. Does it not ?? |

If true then that suggests that the universe is older than we think. Does it not ?? The Universe is 13.8 billion years old. Nucleosynthesis began quite soon after the Big Bang. It is quite possible that star could've formed not so long (in astronomical terms;) after the Big Bang. rOZZ Music Pictures |

How long did it take for atoms to condense ? Was it 500 million years or 500,000. And there would be additional time to form the first stars and planets. If it were 500 million then the universe would be over 14 billion years old. I may have this number wrong (millions vs, thousands on how long to form atoms from the initially posited plasma)) |
