Typical, instead of blaming Misfit, he blames the Irish :-) from the report... The real problem is England ...apparently :) (see what I mean about the coffee?) |

from the report... LOL... "The European Union creates a favourable setting for small independent states to be created, because so long as they join the European Union, they are protected from their bigger neighbours." Another nail in the coffin for the EU! |

Could this be the event that kills the Independent Scotland Yes vote. JK Rowling donates £1m to Scottish Independence No Campaign, calls some nationalists 'Death Eaters', |

Who keeps the "nukes"? Ukraine gave up theirs. |

Who keeps the "nukes"? Ukraine gave up theirs. That's not really a relevant question, they are owned by the UK. But they say an independent Scotland would be nuclear free. And they also say they want to be a member of NATO. Those statements are mutually incompatible. |

Canada is nuclear free, and a member of NATO. I suspect some other countries are in a similar position. |

There are 3 nuclear weapons powers in NATO, the US, the UK and France. Some of the other member states have participated at various times in a NATO nuclear weapons sharing scheme, while others (e.g. founder members Spain, Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Luxembourg, and Portugal) have not. NATO membership requires acceptance of a nuclear first-strike policy. Perhaps of interest is that while it's a founder member of NATO, Iceland has not had a standing arming since 1869. I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ... |

In Canada and other countries "nuclear free" means no nukes based in your nation, and no involvement of your military in nuclear weapons deployment and use. It does not mean your civilian government has to disavow the NATO first strike policy. I think an independent Scotland could choose this path. It does the leave the question of what to do with the nuclear armed subs currently based in Scotland. It has recently come out that during our last Quebec referendum the Canadian military had a secret plan to quickly move key hardware and staff out of Quebec if the vote had been yes, before the new Quebec government started laying ownership claims. I wonder if the UK has something similar in mind? |

I wonder if the UK has something similar in mind? There is no other place to base the nuclear subs so if Scotland wants them out the UK may have to unilaterally dismantle the weapons. This would cause no small problem with NATO. |

??? Off the top of my braincell id say Portsmouth is one place the subs could go if Scotland go there own way !You people can't park a nuclear weapon anywhere. With great cost it will take ten years to just dismantle the base. How much longer will it take to build a new base at Portsmouth? "The Great Satan" grows weary. Scottish ministers expect the transition to take no longer than 10 years, suggesting that there would be no nuclear-powered submarines at Faslane by 2026. "The Scottish Government strongly favours a conventional approach to Scotland's defence, with Faslane being Scotland's main conventional naval base," the spokeswoman added. |

I know those sort of things don't come cheep , fair enough the main operating base is in Scotland but I wouldn't be to surprized if there were other bases in the UK that could handle things already . Like the old saying goes you don't put all of your eggs in one basket !! For the "you people " comment put your "fishing rod "away coz you aint getting any bites from me , I live 5 miles away from two certain air bases that used to be under U.S.A.F control and we had a saying , T.F.Y and its fits you 100% !! |

Looks like this idea that Scotland should be independent was a bad idea because it is causing friction between friends and families. Half a Million Scots Fall Out With Friends Over Independence Vote |

I do believe the following is the current status quo here.... It officially will remain the UK as in the United Kingdom of Britain and Northern Ireland. We will just lose the Great bit if Scotland leaves. That way any document referencing to the UK does not need to be altered and they are the overwhelming majority.
