They need it, about 3 months ago it took the USPS nearly a week to get a 4lb parcel, from Reston and on to a plane at Dulles, the rest of the journey took less than 12 hours. For those who don't know the Washington DC area, Reston is on the direct route between Dulles and Washington.

Must just be the location. I order stuff from the west coast all the time and it rarely takes more than three days for delivery, and that is parcel post.
