12 days to go to lift off. Mars will be a busy place one way and another!! The red planet will be busy. Let's hope something is found. |

The red planet will be busy. Let's hope something is found. Perhaps we should hitch a ride and go and join them....one day. Video's for the Maven Mission. http://mashable.com/2013/11/14/levar-burton-mars/ LeVar Burton Video Is the Best Explanation of a Mars Mission Yet Love this one.. If the Burton video has whetted your appetite for the mission, check out this highly detailed, topographically accurate CGI rendering by NASA of what Mars may have looked like 4 billion years ago, before it lost its atmosphere: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=sKPrwY0Ycno |

Some say that as the sun cools down, Venus is like earth was, and Mars is like earth will be. True! My what time is it over there?? Good to see you :) |

Some say that as the sun cools down, Venus is like earth was, and Mars is like earth will be. G-type main sequence stars like the Sun get hotter and more luminous through their main sequence, about 10% every billion years. The Sun has about five billion years left to go on it before it goes all red gianty. I think that the cause is the accumulation of fusing helium at their cores driving the temperature up. Could be wrong. |

Pardon my skepticism, but Mars' mass pbly. precluded it from ever retaining an atmosphere as dense as Earths -- location from the sun, notwithstanding. What seems more promising, however, is research into determining the orientation of its axis of rotation, over the eons. Bear in mind, that it doesn't have any moon of any appreciable mass to stabilize the axis. |

I may go over and watch the launch Monday afternoon. Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. This no longer applies in light of current events. |

At 1:28 p.m. EST, NASA's Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN (MAVEN) spacecraft launched aboard a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida, beginning a 10-month journey to Mars orbit. MAVEN will take critical measurements of the Martian upper atmosphere to help scientists understand climate change over the Red Planet's history. It's a shame we can't send a manned mission to Mars. Not enough coffee. Yes, manned mission to mars. Thanks Mr. Kevvy. For pointing out my mistake :-) |
