Through the Wormhole is very popularized, you shouldn't believe everything. True though that it's no good...

one episode of Morgan Freeman's "Through the Wormhole", watched the other night.

They have a special building, where they are going to test black holes.

Might that by chance be called the High Energy Thaumics Building?...

Not good.

Au contraire: On the Discworld, fabulously hilarious! Very educational and a fantastic exploration also also...

CERN prepares its long-term future

CERN is now initiating an exploratory study for a future long-term project centred on a new-generation circular collider with a circumference of 80 to 100 kilometres. A worthy successor to the LHC, whose collision energies will reach 14 TeV, such an accelerator would allow particle physicists to push back the boundaries of knowledge even further. The Future Circular Colliders (FCC) programme will focus especially on studies for a hadron collider, similar to the LHC, capable of reaching unprecedented energies in the region of 100 TeV.

Let's see what it gives.......

Let's see what it gives.......

Probably a very large hole in someones budget!

That's the least of problems imaginable.

[edit]Actually, the money problem is a fact, although at least research gets to be done with it. Questionable research imo but more useful than some other (non-scientifical or nonsensical for that matter...)'projects'.

The ASACUSA experiment at CERN has made a beam of antimatter...

The symmetry principle which these experiments are designed to test is whether physics, and therefore the whole universe, would look the same if we simultaneously swapped all matter for antimatter, left for right, and backwards in time for forwards in time. This is called a CPT

Hi Julie! Very interesting post. Thankyou! Only skim-read so far. I'm picturing "sock" so that I don't experience a "BOOM" followed by a "SPLAT"... and then an all consuming interest in how Janet and John are getting on with their ball... their big red ball :)

Guardian again...hehehehe. Didn't get one this morning...didn't need to...

Hope you're having a good day!

CERN and ESA sign cooperation agreement

CERN and ESA signed a framework agreement for future cooperation on research and technology in areas of mutual interest. Future areas may include the development and characterization of innovative materials for applications in extreme conditions and for cutting-edge scientific performances, the development of new micro-technologies to be applied in miniaturized distributed sensor systems and the development and testing of high-performance detectors for high-energy physics experiments and space payloads.

Well said Julie :) It's a nice partnership though isn't it? One to watch definitely!

The existence of exotic hadrons — a type of matter that doesn't fit within the traditional model of particle physics — has now been confirmed, scientists say.

Yes!:) Posting another article.

Discovery of 4-quark hadron proves we still don’t fully understand our universe

Scientists at CERN have confirmed the existence of a new 'exotic' particle
International team used the Large Hadron Collider beauty (LHCb) detector
The particle was first detected in 2007 but it has only now been confirmed
Dubbed Z(4430), the discovery challenges existing models of physics
It may also indicate that a new type of neutron star, a quark star, exists

This may mean that the symmetry group of elementary particles is not SU(3) but SU(4).

If Murphy's law was used as a basis on which to determine whether something new was used we would still be in the stone age. Sorry about this, I was responding to a post on page one, didn't look at the date it was posted. But I guess it still applies.
