I came to this thread looking for others having the same problem. I'm getting it too. Seems to have started this afternoon (PDT).

Could it be that they have reconfigured the software on their end and haven't yet posted the new client update to the web site? The other functionality of the client seems to be working now as of this afternoon. It was able to finally upload my last WU and grab an update to my account. it just can't get new work.

I think this is the case. Last update to the source code I saw was scheduler related.
