Would it be possible to develop a specific functionality for the Admins or the Founder of a team so that they can remove the hidden and unusual threads ? Indeed, it's possible to remove the entire forum of a team (only the Founder of the team has the extension), but this feature is not extended to different threads (sub-forums). Thanks in advance to the developers. |

In 'normal' BOINC forums the moderators cannot remove threads either, only hide them. The only way that I know to then remove threads, is by manually removing them from MySQL, but for that you need to be a project admin and be able to log in onto the server. So, not going to happen. |

Thanks for your answer Ageless. Well, I guess the ability to delete threads via the database is left in the care of the Admins of the SETI@home project and happily ! But I'm sure they will not have fun to delete threads on request... It's for this reason that the development of such extension would be relevant and would reduce the database of the unusual threads (teams + project). |

The forum database load isn't that high. The amount of memory that threads, posts, forum preferences and such uses is one to a couple of megabytes. Peanuts when compared to the actual work load, which is gigabytes, if not more. So don't worry about it. |

So much better if it has a small place ! :) I also talk about the place that it occupies in the forums teams and loss of clarity that may result. To give you an example, the forum of my team is very active and many threads are open for a while and then hidden. This would be a real bonus for the teams to have a such extension. And I think I'm not the only Founder of team to have think about such extension. |

That may be so, but it's just not possible to add, unless all team founders AND team admins are allowed to make direct changes in the database. I don't ever see that happen, the chance that someone misuses his 'powers' is too high. But if you still feel it warrants a request for change, don't hesitate to ask the BOINC developers directly. Best do so through the BOINC Developers email list, or the BOINC Developers forum. Both need separate (from these forums) registration if you never registered there before. |

I don't want that Admins or Founders of teams can touch the database. I never spoke of such possibility. I just want they have the opportunity to delete threads from the platform SETI@home as the opportunity is given to remove an entire forum. Like this extension : "Remove your team's message board" |

I just want they have the opportunity to delete threads from the platform SETI@home as the opportunity is given to remove an entire forum. But how do you think that a delete will take place, when you do not want it to have anything to do with touching the database? Hiding threads is just setting a value in the database from 1 (visible to non-moderators) to 0 (not visible to non-moderators). So if hiding threads already does something to the database, what do you think actually deleting these threads does? |

I'm not a computer scientist, Ageless. I asked a question about the possibility of having an extension. The Founders can promote Admins, exclude members, transfer the title of Founder, delete an entire forum... etc... So I ask the simple question of whether you can delete threads. I don't want to get into a discussion of the architecture of the database project. |

You still need to ask the developers then. It's them who make the BOINC back-end in which the forum-code resides. I've given you the links to places where they reside, it's up to you to make use of that. Is all I can do further. |
