I'm running BOINC on a PC and two Macs. If I'm not mistaken, the Mac version is only 32 bit and doesn't take advantage of the GPU. I'm running a 3.4 GHz i7 with an AMD Radeon HD 6970M with 2GB. I feel like my machine is being underutilized. I guess my questions are 1) Is my observation accurate and 2) are there any plans to upgrade the Mac version of the software to utilize 64 bit and GPU? Just trying to be as effective a participant as possible. thanks! |

If a Mac behaves the same as a PC there may be a slight improvement in speed in going from 32-bit applications to 64-bit applications, but don't expect a massive jump. Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

There are a fact for speed up calculations OS kernel must be in 64 bit mode. |
