There is a theory, that, if you had an infinite number of chimpanzees and an infinite number of typewriters, earlier or later the chimps would produce a Shakespeare story.

Maybe they don't have enough chimpanzees at Berkeley to get the project running?

Seriously, guys! Testing that thing with a handful of computers and then proudly announcing to everyone "We're going online now" doesn't make much sense. It seems, you neither have the computer power nor the bandwidth to handle a project like this. And I'm not even talking about the human factor in all this crap.

Probably it's about time to end the whole project. Like many people here already said: You Berkeley guys bit off more than you can chew. Take a time-out, think it over and come back when you're REALLY ready.

A new version of SETI@home based on BOINC, is now available. We'll be transitioning to this new version (details are here). For now, you can use the new version or stick with SETI@home Classic.

...

Personally I think making this system live is an excellent idea. It gives them the opportunity to test things on a larger scale and fix as necessary. In the meantime (read: until everything is fixed) you have the option to use the old client. Go for it if YOU are not ready for Seti/Boinc :D

I second the motion!

Also, for further consideration, I present exhibit A:
http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc2795.html
and exhibit B:
http://www.karwin.com/products/infinite-monkeys.html

But seriously... machx0r: I'm glad to see I'm not the only one around here with a positive attitude about the whole situation.

And as for Dobson... well, calling a bunch of computer programmers 'chimps' is rather rude and unprofessional. If you can do it better, go to it! BOINC is an open source project! Go download the source code, fix it up for them and submit it back to them. Either that or you will indeed receive our honorary chimpanzee award - now THERE is something for the resume! :)

I feel so honored!!! I want to thank my mom, my dad, my .... whatever ;-)

I mean.. is everything negative? yes
Does evdrything appear senseless? yes

it was the same during the cuba crisis, it was hard, we all were afraid but we made it.
All I say is, that we might not have a J.F.K. in Berkeley in this crisis but only an Al Gore....

regards,
Tom "Chimpanzee of honor"
