The end of the world was canceled, due to a lack of credibility. Extra time for more beer to be drunk. *clinks glass* Cheers! :) Member of the People Encouraging Niceness In Society club. |

I guess all the scam artists who wrote and sold books about 12/21/12 will now write books about how the Mayans were misunderstood and make even more money. Put it all down to the ignorance of current mankind, Bob. The Mayan descendants found it all quite strange that we thought that the ending of the Mayan calender meant the pending end to the world. They were getting ready to celebrate the ending of the old calender and the beginning of the new one. They must think us Western lot a strange bunch!! It is nice to see that everyone is still here. :) I've always thought that these sort of theories become popular because there is something in the human psyche that want's to believe in the mystical. Be it religion, Mayan calenders, Alien visitors, vast government conspiracies or whatever. And there are always unscrupulous folks around who'll take advantage of that in order to make a few dollars. Perhaps some of those who believed in this apocalypse will now have learned to apply reason to extraordinary claims; examining them with real care. If so, this incident will not have been for nought. |

We dident get as many apocalypso`s in time gone by before the internet, now every dimwit on the planet can learn about the next way we are all gonna die instantly an panic about it publicly in front of an audiance of millions on farcebook or twits to feed their desire to panic about anything. Before the wibly wobly web pased doom3 around the world in no time most of the disasters had happened and everyone was either dead and so dident talk about it much or read about the non event months lates in a newspaper about some bunch of nutters that got locked up for thinking we woz all already dead. |

Whatever happened to that American Apocalyptic Pastor after his non-apocalypse earlier this year? Is he still on the scene?... Merry Christmas all! I think you mean Harold Camping, head of Family Radio, of Oakland, California, a religious broadcasting network. He predicted the end of the world on October 21st, 2011, on the basis of his intricate numerical analysis of Biblical texts. Shortly after the date passed without incident, he suffered a stroke. He was hospitalized for a time, and has since returned home. He now says his predictions were 'sinful'. He spoke about his theories frequently over the Family Radio network, before the anticipated date. He is no longer heard on the radio. I spoke to one of Mr. Camping's followers, who lives nearby, on October 21st, 2011. He had been, and was still selling his possessions, though what he thought he'd do with the money, I don't know. He created a local stir by proposing to euthanize his pets, to spare them going through the end of the world. Television people came from San Francisco to interview him. I pointed out to him that at that hour, world time zones being what they are, some of the world had already passed into and out of the fateful date without anything unusual happening. (Mr. Camping had predicted that the end would sweep around the world, hour by hour, as October 21st dawned.) As it turned out, this fellow was already busily reinterpreting and rationalizing Mr. Camping's prediction 'on the fly' to make it fit the facts, speculating that a delay of a few hours, or a few days might be anticipated. |
