Just a couple of weeks ago some friends and I were discussing the pros and cons of having an electric car. One of these friends is the co-owner of a R/C car company called Trinity that makes parts for various radio controlled model cars and one of their products is a Li battery pack. He was telling us that these packs tend to explode if not charged properly. These are the same type of batteries found in most of the full sized electric cars on the market. Anyway we started speculating how long it would be until someone blew up his new car and the garage along with it. Well now it seems it has already happened. http://autos.yahoo.com/blogs/motoramic/fisker-karma-owner-blames-house-fire-car-offended-204708241.html Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. SInce the fire dept says it started near not within the car, I'm putting my money on fraud. Also the fact that he doesn't want their investigation to go any further is a giant red flag http://autos.yahoo.com/blogs/motoramic/fisker-karma-owner-blames-house-fire-car-offended-204708241.html made it clickable In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. It could still be related, like maybe the battery charger overheated. It is documented that Lithium Ion batteries will explode starting fires if an attempt is made to fast charge them. Something R/C car racers tend to try. But I assume the auto industry has installed some form of safeguards to prevent battery explosions. But all it takes are a few impatient fools to create mayhem. True I think most plugins have been thoroughly tested to prevent such incidences In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |
