wonderful show. Though I wonder if the electron interaction is so interactive with others in the universe. I would think the closer an electron is to another that the states change to satisfy the rule. sort of an inverse proportion over distance. Look for his other programmes. His subjects are interesting,(he works at CERN),he used to be in a pop group. He is a really good looking presenter, who on british television interviews is asked more questions about his hair, his ex pop group etc . The problem is his voice, which can make the most important things in life seem boring. I have watched all of his programmes, but I had to record them and take a couple of goes to actualy watch one episode from start to finish as his voice sent me to sleep. He is worth watching though as he has an infectious facination with science and if you watch his programmes, you probably will learn something that you didn't already know. john3760 |

I think that he is mixed up about the Pauli exclusion principle which says that no two electrons can occupy the same energy level(actually same state) in a given atom. Also there can be two electrons in each orbital shell in most atoms and this speaks to the energy level; although they are in different spin states. We couldn't do SETI if the absorption lines weren't at precise and well known frequencies which occur because the electrons jump to the same energy levels in every: say, hydrogen atom and leave the signature that we investigate in astronomy and SETI. Here is the Pauli Eclusion Principle: "No two electrons in the same atom may have identical sets of four quantum numbers" |
