please, dont use "update" function! Let BOINC decide when try to update and connect to the server. Last night i got 1 WU and that's all. I think too many users are so hungry for workunits, that they are updating too offen, by what they are overloading the system... stop it, let it cool down and slowly everybody will get WU to crunch :) |

I too have not been able to download anything for a couple of days (at least some uploads worked). In the meantime, I have just been running my old version of SETI to keep my CPU cranking. When I get some more work through BOINC, I'll shut the old version down again. |

Then add in the computer and network variable (we > all know they can surprise the best of us with unexpected failures) and there > is the potential for downtime. I'm not gonna rip on you. But I think one of the biggest beefs that I've been reading is that they are not keeping us informed at all. A little more communication would go a long way towards preventing the peasants from revolting. With a lack of communication from the top, people are pretty much forced to discuss it amongst themselves. It's not nice to hear all the whining, but besides people getting it off their chest it is a good way for those in charge of the project to be able to judge what is going on. If everyone just sits back and says nothing then how do they know what we really want and how they should prioritize their tasks? > Peace all.... have a beer or two > > > > Back on topic: picked up a few more WU's overnight Not many but all my PC"s > are busy for the moment. :) I'll trade you a beer for a WU. 8) ![]() |

It will take some time to work out all the "strangle" points. They weren't ready for all of the eager crunchers out there. If there are some of you out there starving for work, there are alternatives. Boinc - Beta, Predictor, Folding at home. Just keep the preferences set to the seti2 project higher. HAPPY BIRTHDAY CANADA!!! :) (Now, to put out these forest fires) |

Apart from the startup issues there is allways the following to consider: from: "setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_about.php" Finite work supply Each work unit is now processed a limited number of times (typically three). When we have no work for your computer, you'll get a 'no work available' message. We encourage you to participate in other BOINC-based projects; then, when SETI@home has no work, your computer can stay busy doing other scientific research -------- As you may know S@H classic has much more processing power then needed. So a lot of wu's where send out 10 times or more to keep us all busy. In Boinc a wu is processed not more then needed to get 3 results. Ater that it's gone. So when there are 100.000 wu's and 100.000 processors then everyone is finished after just 3 wu's. I think i might take a look at some other project as well. |

I think a regularly updated "update" would keep a lot of us happy. Now we are gettin the updates after everything has already happened and basically they are of little use. Update before, not after something is about to happen. A comparrison: "i dont tell my girlfriend we are going on holiday after we have already been there". Its not a good comparrison, and i know for example server outtages can occur suddenly, but i think you all know what im tryin to say. Alex |
