Neutrino oscillation is a quantum mechanical phenomenon predicted by Bruno Pontecorvo[1] whereby a neutrino created with a specific lepton flavor (electron, muon or tau) can later be measured to have a different flavor. The probability of measuring a particular flavor for a neutrino varies periodically as it propagates. Neutrino oscillation is of theoretical and experimental interest since observation of the phenomenon implies that the neutrino has a non-zero mass, which is not part of the original Standard Model of particle physics. There we go...need we ask anymore. We have up and down type particles, coloured type particles, flavour type particles, soon we'll have taste and smell type particles if LHC turns up anymore trumps. |

LHC has no part in this experiment. The protons were produced by the SPS, which made protons to hit a target, create other particles, generate muons which decay in electrons and neutrinos (Fermi decay). The neutrinos were timed by the protons bunches which generated them. I watched the video, the audio was very poor but the slides were impressive. The Opera experiment is managed in Italy by an international team at underground Gran Sasso National Laboratory. Tullio |

They seem very solid. They have repeated the experiment three years before announcing it. We might be viewing the start of new physics, which was rather boring in recent years. Strings theory is almost dead, LHC has found no supersymmetric particles. Tullio |

I told you guys, and you doubted me. On the 7th of April 2011, that's 5 months ago, i posted a message here and stated the scientific discoveries i made. I posted the things i discovered in the "Ancient Aliens" thread in the SETI science forum. In this message i posted my discoveries in; http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=63460&nowrap=true#1094188 In that message, i listed 18 discoveries. The discovery numbered "13" was about the speed of light; Quote Johnney Guinness; 12. I found out how to build anti-gravity type aircraft. I knew the speed of light was not 3x10^8 m/s and i posted it in a message here 5 months ago. How could i have known that? .....Because God told me! And all the other discoveries i posted in that thread will also come true. All of the things i discussed here in the last few months will all turn out to be true. John. |

Thanks Michael. We need to cheer up and I shall drink some Barbera to the people of CERN (with which I am cooperating via the Test4Theory@home BOINC project) and to the people of Abruzzi, near the Gran Sasso mountain which covers the Laboratory.Mountain people are my brothers throughout the world. I told you guys, and you doubted me. See Einstein was wrong after all, God does play dice!! And on one particular throw he won and we lost. Can you guess what the bet was? yes, if we loose we get "Johnney" |

I told you guys, and you doubted me. Sorry, but that is still all the stuff of Nostradamus. You've made some random and very general claims, so general that some may well happen or be loosely applicable. You can say nothing more other than that we must 'trust' you. Now: Have you any good detail to narrow your claims to something more believable? Can you demonstrate believable logic or hard repeatable observable evidence to back up your claims? ... negative mass ... In theoretical physics, negative mass is a hypothetical concept of matter whose mass is of opposite sign to the mass of the normal matter. Such matter would violate one or more energy conditions and show some strange properties such as being repelled rather than attracted by gravity. It is used in certain speculative theories, such as on the construction of wormholes. The closest known real representative of such exotic matter is a region of pseudo-negative pressure density produced by the Casimir effect. I thought I had heard about this..... |

Sorry, but that is still all the stuff of Nostradamus. Yes Martin, I went to a great deal of trouble to explain one of my discoveries. I explained in simple mans language exactly how and why black holes are a mathematical error. But nobody payed any credence to the explanation, nor was anyone here even able to see the error even after i pointed out exactly where the error exists. You can bring a horse to water, but you can't make him drink it. Martin when i saw that people here were unable to understand the simple physics in my black hole explanation, that was when i decided to back off from this forum here at SETI. Thats when i decided that the people here don't want to hear what's about to happen in the coming months. I can tell people here about the things i discovered, but they don't want to hear it unless its on the BBC News website or the NASA website. Its not because the BBC or NASA explain it better, its because the people here still don't understand the science, but they "trust" NASA and BBC News, even if the news is wrong. John. |

Sorry, but that is still all the stuff of Nostradamus. you actually made claims. YOu made no explanations. Explanations, generally, show details on how one came to a conclusion or theory. You made some interesting and wild statements. nothing more In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

Something to think about. The speed of light though a vacuum is faster than the speed of light through air. Is the speed of neutrinos through a vacuum likewise faster than the speed of neutrinos through rock? |

Something to think about. I've had a quick scan of the net and there are references regarding the neutrino having a very weak interaction with other particles. So I suppose then that you could presume that the neutrino will travel faster through a vacuum than it would if were passing through air. |

If you remember, I was one of the people giving you a chance and following your posts. Sorry, but you never got beyond the wild claims before taking a leaping jump of faith straight to the "trust in god" excuse. So far, you have made wild claims. We await to see any substance. Something to think about. Wild Speculation, they travel at the speed of light in a vacuum but FTL through a medium. This could explain the reason there is more matter than anti-matter in the universe if near the plank time they interacted in such a manner as to cause matter to dominate over anti-matter. At such matter densities they may well have traveled fast enough to account for inflation. First of course another group using different equipment has to confirm the observation. |
