On a recent episode of Top Gear James May was given access to the new moon buggy that NASA was developing for the next step toward living on the moon. It appears to be a very capable vehicle which now has no mission. James May mentioned that the cancelling of the moon initiative was a very sad event and I agree. I live in central Florida and grew up watching all of the launches from Mercury thru the recent last mission of the space shuttle. It saddens me that most likely I will never witness another start of a manned mission in space. Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. Lately I have been wondering whether it's the radiation levels outside the protection zone of the earth's magnetic field and the possibility that anyone exposed for more than two or three weeks will end up sterile or worse get sick and die. I read that there were a couple of close calls during the Apollo era where they just barely avoided the effects of a CME that likely would have killed the crew. I know some of it is about money but a robust space program feeds the economy. It isn't like they bundle up billions of dollars and shoot them into space. You can buy a house very cheap in Brevard County right now after the shuttle program has wrapped up.
