Recently, on an episode of Morgan Freeman's "Through the Wormhole" about the existence of God one of the scientists talked about the likelyhood that we are all characters in a computer simulation. One of his reasons for postulating this is the projection that within 20 years computers will be advanced enough to run such a simulation. I think this is different from the situation in a story like the Matrix where there was a one to one correlation to a body in stasis to a person in the matrix. While it was an interesting hypothesis I think it is not the case. If I found out I was programmed to have the body I've been stuck with for 62 years I would be very pissed off at my programmer.

My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. This no longer applies in light of current events.

The Programmer in the Matrix never designed our bodies. The code was designed to allow us to create our own through what they called in the movie as Residual Self Image.

As to whether we are all just programs in some elaborately designed obfuscation device, I suppose you have to consider whether Descartes or other Marxist Anarchist or Nihilistic existentialist idealisms.

Dog as a computer programmer. Actually, that would explain a lot. :P
Pure mathematics is, in its way, the poetry of logical ideas.

Could be. It has been proven that a program running on a simulator can't know if it is running on a simulator or real hardware. So we are all just different parts of God's dream!

This story is sure like the Matrix.... Maybe this Forum is also a computer simulation....
look out for the bad guys :) I will look for trinity LOL
Now, that theory is more literature based than in cientific facts

Some parallel universe theory hypothesizes that our universe could be holographic projection, I guess many read that.

The other theory says that our universe is only a speck of dust in the eye of someone in another universe.

A sort of a turtles all the way down theory. :P

Also another crazy theory (was that from Hawking?) suggested that our imaginable size of universe could be included in a black hole.
