A good point and a very relevant one...the analysis resources could be pooled, which would keep us 'crunchers' very happy and, of course, the now 'sleeping' ATA would get the analysis done for an incredibly small cost. Oh, Angela, when does "lurking", become stalking? lol

This is a great idea. I don't know if the Seti Institute would be interested in this, but if so then we could always use more WU's.

Excellent. I'd been wondering whether this was still ongoing as hadn't seen any updates since the original notification from Dec. 2010.

I guess there's no timeframe yet, but it's good to know it's still planned.

As Dr Eric Korpela will already be aware, I managed to get a letter printed in todays UK Daily Mail (May 5) reminding people that whilst it is true that the Allen Telescope Array is being mothballed, Seti@Home is continuing the search with data from the Arecibo radio telescope in Puerto Rico.

Every little helps ;-)

Andrew Siemion with help from early AstroPulse author Paul Demorest (now at NRAO Green Bank) just finished the software modification necessary for the GUPPI instrument there to write 4 bit/complex sample data at 800 MHz. Data collection will start very soon. As soon as we enter some info into the scheduling software. We're excited!

Now it's time to get started on writing a splitter to put that data in something that S@H can handle and run some tests to find what, if any, changes to the S@H application are needed. I'm pointing my finger at Andrew, but thinking that I'll have to do a lot of the header fixup code.

If changes are needed, would they likely be included in v7, or is this further down the road?

Most likely it would be either a "7.5" or we would add it as a separate app if it to difficult to have a unified application.

Good news.

1) Take all the notes you been putting in the thread and make a future directions page out of them

2) I'd think the major changes might be on the science database side of the house. I just suppose ET might transmit on the 1.4GHz band on evan years and the 800 MHz band on odd years. Marrying the data is a requirement and think about any future possible data sources when you do that, so it only has to be done once.

3) If there are big changes needed to the crunch side, also think about possible future data streams.

I'm sure after everyone gets to work tomorrow they might read the thread I started in Cafe SETI on Tax Deductable Donations, as regards United Kingdom Gift Aid Declarations, which includes Gift Aid paid to Overseas Charitable Organisations.

It seems quite a few threads always appear to come down to funding, either for a new server, network hardware, or undertaking science, although some people like beer.

I have no idea how much is donated from the UK to SETI@home on an annual basis, but getting an extra 25% on top of that figure, for merely undertaking a paperwork exercise would appear to generate the funding everyone desires. Not only that, claims for previous years of UK Donations are also entertained by the UK Inland Revenue.

I believe that BOINC and every project currently running under BOINC, if they are a charity in their own right, and have received donations from UK Tax Payers, are all eligible for Gift Aid.

Having been involved with a local Scout Group, we've successfully applied for previous years and received payments.

The only drawback might be having to send out Gift Aid Declaration Forms to every UK SETI@home volunteer on an annual basis, and then having them returned, and finally submitted to the UK Inland Revenue, but perhaps that isn't such a difficult task done electronically?
