Hello! It may be an idea, to develop a starmap (with the milky way) and to show with a (red?) dot, where the current AND the last tasks came from. By clicking on the dot, more information is available. It'd also be great, to transform the task in an audio file. To be honest, this is the most interesting thing for me on this project: to see, which part/direction of the universe I have on my Mac "running". Wouldn't that be nice? I had such an add-on years ago on XP (or Win 98?), but now I'm using Mac, and I have no idea, where to get that again. It was great; unfortunately I can't remember the other features, but I was pretty surprised that this option isn't a "basic" item. It'd be nice to hear "pros and cons" about that.. C. |

The audio version of a WU doesn’t really sound like anything; they’re all more or less white noise. As for finding the coördinates—if you’re not running an app with graphics (which include the RA & Dec. in the display)—you can open any WU file* with a text editor and look at the content of the <start_ra>, <start_dec>, <end_ra>, & <end_dec> tags: the values are in (decimal) hours & degrees respectively. * Found at Library/Application Support/BOINC Data/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/DDmmYYxx#…#.T, where the part after the last slash represents the structure of a typical filename. |

Hello BilBg and Odysseus! Yes, SetiMapView is actually the program, I used to work with on Windows, thanks BilBg! It's possible to look up the coordinates on a map on my own, yes, but wouldn't it be nice to let a program do this work- far more effectively as I can do it on my own? For example, the starmap could be an alternative to the screensaver that is now running, free to choose from the user itself. To see this possibility installed at Seti@Home for all platforms, would be a nice idea, I still think. Sound: You're right, Odysseus- it sounds pretty noisy and -for some- disappointing, but it's a nice idea, I think, to get it touch with the signal not just by numbers and graphics. Greets! |

The starmap could be an alternative to the screensaver that is now running, free to choose from the user itself. They have no time to program that, as you see the SetiMapView is made by somebody else, not the people in the lab. Sound: You're right, Odysseus- it sounds pretty noisy and -for some- disappointing, but it's a nice idea, I think, to get it touch with the signal not just by numbers and graphics. If you want to hear that "Classic" sound of space (noise) get my package Classic SETI in action http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=59278&nowrap=true#994346 http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=59278&nowrap=true#1024291 Direct links (Two versions of Classic SETI@home): Version 3.03 http://mail.dir.bg/~bil/SETI@home__Classic_SETI_for_fun__--BilBg--.rar Version 3.08 http://mail.dir.bg/~bil/SETI@home_3.08__BilBg.rar (Just extract files and run SETI@home.exe - no install needed) Classic work_units: http://mail.dir.bg/~bil/SETI@home__Classic__work_unit.sah.rar How to Listen to the "Classic" sound of space: Go to wu2wav directory Run wu2wav.exe Play the generated work_unit.wav Note: wu2wav.exe works only with Classic files work_unit.sah (For more work_unit.sah files look in SETI@home__Classic__work_unit.sah.rar Just put one Classic work_unit.sah file in wu2wav directory and Run wu2wav.exe ) Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |

The best thing you can do is find some Windows emulator for Mac OS X http://www.macwindows.com/emulator.html ~15 years ago I have seen how Tomb Raider 1 (for MS-DOS) run on Mac (in emulator) Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |

SMV is unusable for calendar. It stops counting at DEC 2010. Is there any newer tool ? And any other tool that can visualize BOINC projects data ( not only S@H ) |

HELLO, Is there a group or anyone who uses either microsoft telescope, google sky or world wind that might be able to incoprate this feature? I really don't want to have to switch programs and input cordiences into a seprate program. I always thought it was cool listining in even though it sounds like white noise for other people. If not I guess I'll go back to writing macro's |
