Carl, Orson. lovingly known as "your obesity" "laser breath" or a host of other non-flattering names. Citizens of Ork were born old(hence johnathan winters as their child) and progressively got younger. Orson was one of the "Elders"(when finally shown, a little kid). And my goodness I actually remember this nonsense? Janice |

Carl, Ah yes. That jogged my memory. Careful though, it shows our age. So perhaps Mearth would be a more fitting now. But then again, I just looked at the server status page for the first time in a decade or so and noticed there's no Cindy. Then there's that other oldie with Uncle Martin played by Ray Walston back in the early 60's if memory serves me. -Carl |

If I may so bold as to say, do not salvage any parts from mork at this time but seek volunteer(s) like a student looking for experience, to test mork thoroughly. The past discussion about bad memory and not having time to run a full battery of memtests (week+??), or even have the power supplies load tested properly. The last thing that needs doing in swapping bad parts (untested?) for suspected bad parts... "Red Warrior Needs Food Badly" |

As for Mork, salvage anything in the way of usable parts (like memory) then have a wake for it. Prior to the wake, you could auction off some number of chances to take one swipe at what's left of Mork with a sledgehammer. For those able to get to Berkeley, they could celebrate, vent and raise more money for SETI. Don't destroy Mork. After the wake and funeral, let's continue to celebrate his passing by placing him in a plexi-glass enclosure, minus the case, and set him in the lobby so that all who pass may pay their respects to a very proud, valuable and battle weary warrior. |

To immortalize Mork, auction off his parts in the forum. It will raise a little money, and he will be remembered by well meaning contributors. Rob |

Thanks for the idea, Richard. We'll be trying it out. Looks like Richard's idea is working out splendidly! The 5-minute back-off allows everyone at the feed box, but not at the same time, so the downloads are proceeding in an orderly and swift manner. This is so much more efficient on the download link that it looks like the need for a fatter pipe has been reduced or eliminated. And no new ghosts, either! Three cheers for Richard's idea! Thank you! |

While it is definitely helping, I think a lot of the bandwidth relief is coming from the very low limits that are in place at the moment. If the project were to run 24/7, all would be well, and everyone could stay loaded. However, with 3 day outages and the low limits, a lot of people will be running dry, faster machines within just a few hours of being cut off from a steady work supply. Even my laptop with just a dual core Core2 processor, is only looking at about 18hours of work from it's limit of 20 WU's. I do agree though, I think this is the first time I've seen >100kbps download speeds, and I like it :) |

Well, that was fun, I needed a break. Welcome back everyone. Oh, and Swibby Bear, some of us are getting ghosts. I got 50 of them but 20 were resent as resend lost tasks. Hope they catch the rest of them. PROUD MEMBER OF Team Starfire World BOINC |
