I am running windows xphome and I think I know the problem..my question is can I reinstall and correct the problem w/o hurting my avg or anything else

Yes.

You can uninstall the software and reinstall it afterwards.
Be sure you use the same account.
On the server in Berkeley, once you reinstalled the software, you will very probably have 2 computer ID's. You can then merge the 2 computers together.
