Mags, FYI: for SETI the quarum size is 3, which means you need 3 similar results to get credit. In LHC, it's 2, in predictor it (was) 2, and in CP it's 1.

The results won't even get sent to the validator to see if they match until three have been returned.

From what I have read recently, it still takes 3 successful returned results to be validated and credit issued. It also appears that it takes 2-3 weeks before a new result ID is created and resent for validation due to a bad or timed out result.

I have several wu's that have 2 successful returns with other computers either timing out, download error or some sort of file error. This same wu also shows a being sent out for a third try after one or more failures.

Here is one example:

15 Sep 2004 15:46:55 UTC --- Over No reply New 0.00 --- --
15 Sep 2004 15:46:48 UTC --- Over No reply New 0.00 --- ---
15 Sep 2004 15:46:58 UTC 27 Sep 2004 18:22:25 UTC Over Success Done 7,590.75 33.09 pending
3 Oct 2004 10:08:52 UTC --- In Progress Unknown New --- --- ---
3 Oct 2004 10:09:01 UTC 10 Oct 2004 14:11:51 UTC Over Success Done 13,764.66 28.58 pending

Here is one that reflects the unsent but does have a result ID created:

30 Sep 2004 21:08:06 UTC 7 Oct 2004 0:46:11 UTC Over Success Done 17,279.91 37.39 pending
30 Sep 2004 21:08:34 UTC --- Over No reply New 0.00 --- ---
30 Sep 2004 21:08:42 UTC 6 Oct 2004 22:53:20 UTC Over Success Done 16,816.00 51.87 pending
--- --- Unsent Unknown New --- --- ---

"
"Ok, but there from reading some posts in various threads and looking at my own results, it appears that there are a number of WU's where 3 results have been returned as "Done,Success,Over" and have not been validated. They also have not been resent to any new machines (as would happen if none of the three results matched)."

Yes I have a lot like that too

I also have quit a few results that do have 3 successful returns that show still pending. Since the validator is 100% current, I can only suspect that this is an error on the result page itself or ET grabbed them during one of our outages or software/hardware upgrades.

Yes, I'm guessing we've all got some like that - I know I have:

http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/workunit.php?wuid=1900700

My guess is that they are so old that now the validator queue has drained we'll be lucky to get credit for them.

To be honest, there's not that many that appear to be missed without an apparently good reason.

Mags,
The link that you used is for Boinc. Each project would have it's own set of rules for credit, etc. I have not personally ever received any credit for Seti@Home without having 3 results returned. Do you have a link for just this project?

Yes here is one. http://homepage.mac.com/pauldbuck/site-common/glossary/letter-q.html#quorum-of-result

Looking back on previous results and responses in the forums, it seems that if there is an error result on one of the three, then the lower of the two is allocated. If the third times out, then the other should remain pending until the WU is reissued (not sure if this works in practise). If three valid results are returned, the lower is supposed to be allocated. I have also seen it suggested in forum responses that an average is taken but I haven't seen that on my own WUs.

Can someone look at the WU and let me know if it will get credit?

http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/workunit.php?wuid=2319593

It has 3 results and one error with 0 but is still pending.
