thats multiple days worth of nothing. In the future lets hope he has the good sense to not post useless information and wait for one of us to ask for information first Well...he's only made 5 posts....3 of which are these of these long logs. Maybe a polite PM to him explaining that such lengthy logs posts are usually not needed unless troubleshooting a specific problem would help? Not sure who read Matt's Tech News today. They have the DB issues sorted and things will pickup. However They are having to back haul other disk images to split (make workunits). That takes time and they are working from remote. What does that mean? It means work may/will be scarce at times and use Backup Projects. IF Seti is your only project then you may run out of work... That is to be expected. In the Us have a Happy Thanksgiving, as many are running for odds and ends groceries. I hope that you took time to either drop a canned good(s) or donations for those less fortunate. A silent voice somewhere will say Thank You. Regards Please consider a Donation to the Seti Project. |

Happy Thanksgiving It appears that a router may have gone down during the night. Thus no Uploads/Downloads or Scheduler contact. Yes, the servers status appears that the machines are doing okay. They are probably idling wondering where everyone went during the night. A Reminder Web Services go thorugh the Campus Network. Uploads/Downloads or Scheduler go through Gigabit Link. Regards Edit: 9:33 PST Matt has stated there there is nothing they can do right now (See the Tech News). The problem may be in Hurricane's side of things. Crunchem if you Gotem. No actually it is in the Windows OS, this goes back to after so many retires. the volitile TCP/IP Stack becomes corrupt. Safely shutdown Boinc. The way I have found to correct that is to go into your Network Connection and into the Network Adapter itself (Status). Depending on Xp, Vista or Win 7 it is a bit different for each. Once you have the Status dialog up for the active network connection. Go into the Properties In the window "this connection uses the folloing items" Select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)", the Properties Button. Go down to the bottom right corner and Select Advanced. I tend to use the Wins Tab. Select Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP. Click OK, Click OK, Click OK Click and Close. You have just forced a change to the Stored and Volitile TCP/IP Stack Now go back into the Network Adapter (Status), Properties, Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), Properties, Advanced, WINS Tab and Select Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP. Click OK, Click OK, Click OK Click and Close. No restart Boinc and go back to your transfers. in the Case of Vista and Win7 Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) = Internet Protocol version 4(TCP/IPv4) Regards Please consider a Donation to the Seti Project. |

The Servers are not broken, There is an Internet path between Your two computers and the Seti Servers. A Lot of things have to happen inorder to "connect" everytime. So by what doing you stated you just did. Uou bypassed what your ISP should have been doing for you. The fact that you got DOWNLOADS TELLS it is NOT the Seti Servers. ps2os2 Still getting: The number of days worth of logs makes it very difficult for anyone to really answer or want to answer. I have brought the size of the logs down showing to Yesterday. It is interesting that you do not show todays log entires. I would suggest taht theyou shut the computer down for at least 1 minute and then restarted to see what will happen. Because of the size of you message. I have hidden it to allow other users to post and read without the very long pause in the middle.. Regards Please consider a Donation to the Seti Project. |

The problem is with the download servers- the round robin DNS problem has reared it head again. All that occurs when people re-boot or flush their DNS cache, or edit their Hosts file is they end up connecting to the download server that is working, instead of the one that isn't. Grant You are correct, after early investigation found that the server 208.68.240.13 has a problem. I had emailed Matt and Eric the information that stated as much. I then tried to explain a non destructive method to get past the issue. Currently there are many threads talking about Host files and Registry entries to make the problem go away. Over the years of computing I know what they are talking about, it does create potential future issues that as the current problem is solved, a user is then stuck as a result. It has affected my XP machines, my 2K3, Vista and Win7 (sorry jason). Using my method of insuring that at the time of contact that 208.68.240.18 was in the DNS cache and then starting Boinc works. I did not have to create any files or change any Registry entries. Yes it is a pain in the you know where... I do not have to undo anything that would/could cause a problem in the future. Users that phone home once every 24 hours may never see the issue. Regards Please consider a Donation to the Seti Project. |
