do not know how to ping berkerley

Address is boinc2.ssl.berkeley.edu, please spell correctly. Not berkly, berkely, berkerly, berkerley, berserkly, berserkley, berserkerly or berserkerley.

Then just follow the simple steps on How to use the Ping command?

Still having trouble do not know how to ping berkerley or should I alter my drivers. got the old
BOINC can't access Internet - check network connection or proxy configuration coming up after I did the Network today with a proxy which I do not have so I have rebooted the machine and will wait, can anyone help me?

I will try and help you, but I am not going to read the whole thread. First thing, can you ping Berkeley? If you don't know how, go to your Windows "Start" button and click "Run...". In the dialog box that will come up type in "cmd" and press enter. You should get a black "dos" screen. Type in "ping boinc2.ssl.berkeley.edu". You should get 4 replies if you can reach Berkeley and other messages if not.

Ok. That means you "can" connect to Berkeley. As a matter of interest, I get different replying IP addresses from my different rigs. Some end with 13, and the others 18. I can download/update at will.

Next: if you are posting these messages from the PC you are currently working on, check to see if you are using a proxy server. Assuming you are using Internet Explorer, go to "Tools", "Internet Options", "Connection Settings", "Lan Settings". If the "Proxy Server" box is ticked, you are using a proxy server. Note down the IP address -something like 192.28.5.123 and port - usually 80.

Then: if you not using a proxy server, open Boinc Manager and go to "Advanced", "Options". Make sure that the main check box for both "HTTP Proxy" and "SOCKS Proxy" are NOT checked.

Or: if you are using a proxy server open Boinc Manager and go to "Advanced", "Options". Check the main check box for "HTTP Proxy" and enter the proxy server IP address and Port. Make sure that the main check box under "SOCKS Proxy" is NOT checked.

Try download/upload again. You will get a message initially as it seems that Boinc stores one of these messages to tell you that you were last unable to connect. You should get some joy then.

What message do you get from S@H when you request work and it does not give you work?

As Matt and the Crew are in getting Ready for the Weekly Maintainence. I would expect that Matt will state in the Tech News that the Server is Repaired. For Users that decided to wait out the storm, Downloads will resume.

For those that created a "Host" file you will need to clear that. The prefered method would be:

Safely Shutdown Boinc

Open the host file in notepad
Remove the line
208.68.240.18 boinc2.ssl.berkeley.edu #Seti Download Server
Save the file and exit
Open a CMD window and type ipconfig /flushdns
Then restart Boinc.

You should be good to go.

Regards

I have a Mac Pro and I haven't gotten any work units for about 5 days. I'm getting all kinds of error messages like failed downloads and "wrong size: expected 375303, got 0" so where do I go from here?

Gene

That is because it is hitting the .13 Server. Please wait until after Matt takes care of things during the outage.

In case a few have not noticed... From Matt in the Tech News

Meanwhile, the astropulse signal table reload project still lingers on! I'll spare you the details because I wasn't here and don't really understand them, but playing a shell game with a hundred million rows' worth of data ain't easy, and there have been annoying or unexpected hurdles each step of the way. As it stands now, the project is pretty much off again as we're trying to rebuild an index and all resources are required to get this done sooner than later. It's already taken a couple days and hasn't shown much progress.
