Hi there,

I recently formatted my entertainment pc for a tidy up. Everything works fine but boinc will not connect to the server. I have enabled boinc in the fire wall.

I was hoping to find a trouble shooting connections/settings page but haven't managed to find one yet.

In the options the is no default connection in connections and Http proxy and socks are unticked. I'm guessing herein lies my problem.

Any help would be great, must crunch more numbers!

Cheers

From the thread title I would conclude that you have to select "Run always" and "Network activity always available" from the Activity menu of BOINC manager (advanced view).

Thanks for the replies. There are quite a few messages, how many would suffice?

I just tried changing the 2 settings in activity but when I clicked to update the project I got the connection deffered message in the status. I also notice in transfers the block of data status retry.

It will be best to restart the BOINC client or to reboot. Then post the startup messages here, including those of one upload/download attempt.

Thanks for the help!

I don't see the problem here. It apparently started processing a task. I don't know how much work you have on hand, or what your timestats look like, but the scheduler has determined that you have enough work on hand to keep your computer busy for the time that is specified for the queue (sum of connect every X and extra work).

Since your computers are hidden, we can't see the kind and number of tasks your machine has downloaded. The task currently running is an AstroPulse one, which take rather long to complete (three weeks on my laptop, running exclusively).

Do you still have a task stuck in uploading? If so, you should copy the messages of an upload attempt here also.

Gundolf

It's an AP 5.05, which are a tad quicker. ;-)

The astropulse one has uploaded. I'm thinking that was the problem as things seem to be going fine now. Seems bizarre, perhaps the amount of times you swear at something really does make a difference...

Thanks to John and Gundolf for your assistance, I'd shout you a beer if you were closer!
