Downgrade to 4.09 Edit your general preferences for home, school and work, whichever is applicable. Ensure that Switch between applications every is set to a value greater than 0. 60 is recommended. Update your client via Project - Update. Make sure that the messages show that your new settings are in use. Then upgrade to 4.12 Please note that this is a quick-fix solution until something more "official" is announced. Good Luck. |

> Here was mine I bet 4.12 reacts differently on a majority of units. Some thing The units are not the factor. Only people with school, home or work preferences are affected. The setting I mention does not appear to have been set for these, thus to BOINC it is "0" and these preferences override the primary ones if set. |

I bet, the guys @ Berkeley overlooked that time to copy the change over to already created profiles that didn't match the default profile. Anyway, This belongs on the front page! Aloha, Uli |

Just tried this Ralic and it worked like a dream. One thing of interest, when I adjusted my preferences at Seti, it didn't pick up on the update. I checked over at Climate and it had not updated there (it should). I updated it at Climate and it picked it up on update. Bit odd really! Anyway cheers for this - yes it should be on the front page - come on admin! |

> I bet, the guys @ Berkeley overlooked that time to copy the change over to Please don't turn this thread into a Berkeley bashing opportunity.... > Anyway, This belongs on the front page! I disagree. This is a public solution to help those that can implement it. There may be a more elegant fix, and if so, then that fix would belong on the front page. ;-) If thread visibility is the concern, we can simply keep bumping this thread to keep it at the top. |

In this special case this behaviour is bad. So this parameter should be initialized with 60. Simple as that. BTW: I don't want to bash at anyone @ Berkeley. I'm a software developer myself and know how easy it is to overlook something like that ;) Aloha, Uli |

Agreed, and an elegant way to do that may be to release 4.13 with an in-built check to prevent a value less than 1. :) > BTW: I don't want to bash at anyone @ Berkeley. I'm a software developer My request was not intended to be taken personally and I apologise if that is how it came across. It's just that I notice any thread that points out a possible mistake, is almost guaranteed to turn into a bashing exercise. Just thought I'd try and prevent that from happening to this one. |

For me works a similary workaround: in global_prefs.xml every line with [cpu_scheduling_period_minutes][/cpu_scheduling_period_minutes] changing to [cpu_scheduling_period_minutes]60[/cpu_scheduling_period_minutes] P.S. use greather than, lower than instead of [ and ] |

Would you need to do this even if you are only running 1 project? (SETI@Home) What is the impact that "switching between applications" every 60 minutes will have when you're only running one project application? |

> Would you need to do this even if you are only running 1 project? (SETI@Home) Yes. > What is the impact that "switching between applications" every 60 minutes will > have when you're only running one project application? I leave this to the devs for a proper answer, however in my case I noticed extreme disk activity, and an unresponsive application, if the value is not set or set to 0. For a single project, there should be no switching, however the setting does affect single project systems. (Well it affected one of mine...) |

It has no impact (that I can tell anyway). I have 60 minutes set in my General Preferences (I do not have separate settings for Home/Work/School). One of my systems has SETI and CPDN and it alternates between the two every 60 minutes like it says. The other system runs only SETI and it just keeps running it without any problems. Mark H. |

Ralic's solution works like a charm. no BOINC freezing. Thank you very very much. I hope the Boinc guys do mention this on the front page. Thanks once again |
