I finished now my new 'rig-project'.. ;-)

Using NCP will cause BSOD..?

I installed only the GPU-driver..

Then I looked in -> msconfig/systemstart

And found:

NvCpl - RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup
nwiz - nwiz.exe /install
RunDLL32 - RUNDLL32.exe NvMCTray.dll,NvTaskbarInit
ctfmon - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe

So it would be well to disable NvCpl ?
This is the NCP ?

What are the others?
Maybe something I could disable also?


SETI@home CUDA need DirectX ?
WinXP Home SP2 have DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
So maybe I need to update to DirectX 10? (supplied on the GPU-driver-CD)

Paul Buck may get a BSOD, but do you? If you do, what does the BSOD say? Without that information it could be anything, even the changes in the weather. ;-)

From what I understand

NvCpl is a NVIDIA utility for the display control panel, which allows the configuration of extra display options.

nwiz is the nVidia nView Desktop Manager Configuration Wizard.

NvMCTray loads your video display profile, also sticks an icon in your system tray and gives you quick access to display settings.

Ctfmon.exe activates the Alternative User Input Text Input Processor (TIP) and the Microsoft Office Language Bar.

Um, I am not sure what you mean here. What systemstart? You mean the registry?
BOINC Manager starts from the registry, as does boinctray.exe

BOINC Manager is the GUI. Normally it will start the client when that one isn't running. When you have BOINC installed as a service, the service will start before Windows log on. After log on, BM will open up (through the registry entry). If the service isn't running (you stopped it before, or set it to Manual start up type), BM will start the service.

You can stop BM from running by going BM->Advanced view->advanced->Options->Take the check off of "Run Manager at login?" (or similar wording).

Boinctray.exe is the idle detection application which checks if you are using the keyboard and mouse, for when you use the "Only do work when idle" options.

For example if I disable/enable PhysX in the nVIDIA settings, I don't need anymore the 'NvMCTray' entry, or?
The settings are saved somewhere?
And profiles I don't need, or?

Oh, those things. That depends from machine to machine what is starting up.

No, DirectX 9.0c is the only requirement for BOINC. CUDA doesn't have a requirement on its own, but I would assume that the nVidia drivers do, so go by their requirements for the DirectX version.

Physx is not a requirement, you can disable it. It's only used in games.

No, they're also only for gaming experience, as far as I can find. Seti CUDA will not look at those settings.

AFAIK you can uncheck the entries for nwiz and NvMCTray without it effecting CUDA, (though I haven't done this since running CUDA). NvCpl I believe will involve editing the registry to keep it from running, but might be best to leave running.
